I'll be contracted for 6 months to take only their loads, but no I'm not forced to take a load. I did have them add a clause saying if there is no freight I'm free to run other loads for one week after they tell me they dont have a load by Monday 12pm. I dont know if it will hold up in court but likely I'd just take that week off or take a few days instead of chancing the back lash. The only time it will be an issue is winter and winter flatbed sucks
Reality of my logic

Are you able to tack on an addendum stating that they need to provide a minimum weekly income? There is a chance they will say weve got loads so you must haul our stuff, but they wont be profitable enough to cover your basic expenses.
I am a company driver for a quarry with MC for backhauls to return to the quarry. Outbound it is only rock, so its slightly comparable to your situation in that the truck is dictated thus my income is not up to me. When there isnt enough rock i dont get to stay home or go somewhere else. I just cant pay all my bills. And hence, need another job
Dont let anyone lock your truck into a cannot profit situation. An MC that has no freight to move only has an interest in maximizing their trucks gross. An MC with their own freight will have a vested interest in covering their loads. Especially a dispatcher who gets the same pay no matter what your gross is. The dispatcher gets whipped if they dont move their loads, so theyll have a natural tendency to point you to what is easy for them.
My office lady will send me on a $1/mile lumber over a $2/mile lumber if she is already set up with the cheap one and doesnt feel like doing a carrier packet. Shes just trying to make it to 4pm.Last edited: Aug 7, 2019

If it were me and I was buying a used emissions truck it would be no older than a 2015 and it would have to be the Detroit engine. Yes, they had some issues but not anything like Cummins and Paccar motors had. I wouldn't even consider an international with the maxforce engine. Good luck finding one with the egr cleaning done. I don't know of any shops that do it and I wouldn't be as concerned about it with the Detroit. Not sure if you have a preference of brand of truck or model of truck but if I was buying a used truck it would be a Prime truck. They maintain them probably better than any fleet does and they're priced right in my opinion. Check out pedigree truck sales if you want to see what they have.
