I'll be contracted for 6 months to take only their loads, but no I'm not forced to take a load. I did have them add a clause saying if there is no freight I'm free to run other loads for one week after they tell me they dont have a load by Monday 12pm. I dont know if it will hold up in court but likely I'd just take that week off or take a few days instead of chancing the back lash. The only time it will be an issue is winter and winter flatbed sucks

I have been doing some thinking and I still will. I asked my mechanic and he told me pre 2004 with a realitivly fresh rebuild or after 2015 with a freash egr clean up with in the last year. I think he said egr never been In a newer truck my company truck is pre emissions.

Then truck I'm looking at is aski g 14k it's an n14 10speed and has been owned by the same guy since new in 2001. He said he did an inframe about 100k ago and has all maintenance documents somewhere. It's in rough shape cosmetically though his veiw is if it doesnt help him make money then it's not worth fixing

Are you able to tack on an addendum stating that they need to provide a minimum weekly income? There is a chance they will say weve got loads so you must haul our stuff, but they wont be profitable enough to cover your basic expenses.

I am a company driver for a quarry with MC for backhauls to return to the quarry. Outbound it is only rock, so its slightly comparable to your situation in that the truck is dictated thus my income is not up to me. When there isnt enough rock i dont get to stay home or go somewhere else. I just cant pay all my bills. And hence, need another job

Dont let anyone lock your truck into a cannot profit situation. An MC that has no freight to move only has an interest in maximizing their trucks gross. An MC with their own freight will have a vested interest in covering their loads. Especially a dispatcher who gets the same pay no matter what your gross is. The dispatcher gets whipped if they dont move their loads, so theyll have a natural tendency to point you to what is easy for them.

My office lady will send me on a $1/mile lumber over a $2/mile lumber if she is already set up with the cheap one and doesnt feel like doing a carrier packet. Shes just trying to make it to 4pm.

Any work claimed to be done must be proven by paperwork or it never happened in my opinion. If a seller can't prove it then my price will reflect the truck without the work done. If I had $50k-$70k on hand I would buy a 2000-2003 truck and completely go through the truck.

If it were me and I was buying a used emissions truck it would be no older than a 2015 and it would have to be the Detroit engine. Yes, they had some issues but not anything like Cummins and Paccar motors had. I wouldn't even consider an international with the maxforce engine. Good luck finding one with the egr cleaning done. I don't know of any shops that do it and I wouldn't be as concerned about it with the Detroit. Not sure if you have a preference of brand of truck or model of truck but if I was buying a used truck it would be a Prime truck. They maintain them probably better than any fleet does and they're priced right in my opinion. Check out pedigree truck sales if you want to see what they have.

Keeping my truck looking good makes me money. DOT doesn't mess with me and customers appreciate it when their freight is being picked up by a nice truck. It shows pride in the job. If an O/O truck doesn't look good then the customer automatically thinks the guy doesn't take care of his equipment and if he doesn't take care of his own equipment them how can they trust him to take care of their freight? Show up looking and acting professional with a nice looking clean truck and you'll be surprised how many customers will actually request you. Just things to think about...

Any guess on what my actual insurance would be as a leased on? I have heard anywhere from 5k to 15k a year for a young driver

The one year comment was more of a minimal. I'd prefer it last 3 to 5 but after a year I'll have more than suggestion and napkin scribbles to go off of and cold look for that truck that fits well plus I'd have some history for a bank to lean on. I'm thinking about a revised operation

It is something to think about. before this thread I was very much anti loan but I'm shifting views here. Is there a template for truck payments like 100 a month for every xbox for example a typical rate and term for a car you can expect to pay 100 a month for every 5,000 of vehicle.

Not really sure. I don't think so because the interest can vary so much.
