LOL, you listened to the wrong people when looking for a job. Keep knocking on doors, after 15-20, maybe you’ll find that diamond. Happy hunting

I’m new to this business but one things I’ve learned throughout my 36 years on this earth is be that employee that has a positive attitude, always available and willing to help out the guy next to you. Be the best (insert job title) that you can be. When you get to complaining or being negative it travels throughout the company fast. Even when you don’t like or agree with something, just smile and say yes sir I’ll take care of it. Like most have said, get through this phase and it’s all down hill.

Just suck it up and get through your hopefully short time with the “trainer”. Too many guys who become trainers are suckasses that always dreamt of the one day in their pathetic lives they could “be in charge”, so just let him get his rocks off being king for a day and after it’s over with, you never have to speak to the MF again.

Interesting comment given many people say also to avoid the megas at all costs. I recognize there's a lot of space between a small "mom & pop" and the "mega" carriers but I would imagine that real key factor at any company is the overall internal culture. One of the most valuable lessons I've learned in my work life is how the personality and attitudes of the people at the very top of a company filter down through the rest of the company often b/c the people at the top tend to hire and promote people who are like themselves. This is how you end up w/ a company full of jerks or a company that genuinely cares about the quality of it's people and it's product rather than just all profit all of the time.

The problem with smaller companies run by family and friends of the family ... Is that you're not family or a friend of the family. You'll always be the first to be thrown under the bus no matter what.

Doesn't matter how hard you work or how positive you are.

Don't forget that the friends and family usually aren't very good at their jobs, and only work there BECAUSE they're a friend or family. I've seen this quite a few times in the trucking business. The safety manager at my last job was a Marine buddy of the owner and didn't know the first thing about trucking, and was always off for 2 weeks on vacation with his wife who also worked there. I mean like 6 vacations a year. The job I had before that, everybody was related, and that job lasted all of 2 months because nobody knew what they were doing.
