So last night my stepson was driving a bunch of us out to the bar in my fiancee's sisters van which had a headlight out. He texts us on his way home he got pulled over for the headlight and got a simple fix-it ticket. Then he picks us up with the same van and gets pulled over with a vanload of drunks for the same headlight again. He shows the officer the fix-it ticket and is sent on his way. We were talking about this and my stepsons friend said the other day he got pulled over for his tail lights being out (all of them) and because he was weaving on the road. The officer does a sobriety check (which is pretty funny since this kid has a liver condition, if he drinks it will more than likely kill him). So he passes the sobriety check and when the cop tell him he was weaving he tells the guy he was sleepy and nodding off. He gets a fix-it ticket and is sent on his way.
My fiancees ex husband just got his 6th dui 2 months ago...he is still driving, they never took his license. And he has never done jail time despite being a gross repeat offender.
Now, play those same scenerios while driving your truck...I see a pile of csa points, the possibility of several fines, a couple oos, and a loss of license for life. It was then I realized how coddled the 4 wheeling public is. It's no wonder the vast majority of accidents are the fault of the 4 wheeler driver. I'd like to see some of these folks have to drive under our rules some time.

Well said. Thank you.

The rules and laws should be the same for everyone.
We all share the same roads, so why aren't we all judged by the same standards?!Sam Hell Thanks this. -
Right to the main point with that post. Often thought of this; never heard it mentioned by anyone. I suppose the education we go through, as well as hundreds of miles daily on the road, puts us in the spotlight. Something as simple as expanding the drivers' tests for the general motoring public to include a section on Driving with Trucks would be a good start. There are things that can be done.
TRKRSHONEY and Moosetek13 Thank this. -
The difference is WE are "supposed" to be the professionals on the roadways. I know it's hard to believe some days with what we see some steering wheel holders do but...
-
Yes, and I am so sick of the argument "we are professional drivers and therefore held to a higher standard". That argument is often given in regards to the dui issue. Tell me this, are you any less dead if you are killed by a drunk soccer mom in her minivan than if you were killed by a drunk in a truck? Or replace drunk with texting, or talking on a handheld cell phone.
bullhaulerswife, frontrange, GyrrwrLori and 1 other person Thank this. -
We are are held to a higher standard because we drive for a living.
But every 4-wheelie drives to work for their living.
I really don't see a difference. -
hey dont get your panties in an uproar. Just imagine the talent it takes to text while driving a 4 wheeler when you are drunk
-
4 wheelers get special breaks because politicians are also 4 wheelers. If politicians drove big rigs the HOS would be corrected.
KansasWhirl, Numb and Roscopeco Thank this. -
Just so we can be clear here. The motoring public still is under the same responsibility requirement for an operational vehicle as we are. The locality and states, however, don't get a financial windfall pulling them over as they do us...or at least it seems that way to me.
I'd just like to see the current laws enforced on 4-wheelers for the operational requirements of their vehicles as we have on ours....then you would see an increase in local and state revenues that would put them in the black.Killer60148 and Freezer Burn Thank this.
