I agree some. However, it seems like in the last year or so LEO's / courts are starting to see the truckers viewpoint when accidents / situations happen. I believe the education by trucking groups is starting to show some benefit. Like the " NO ZONE" [ blind spots ] advertisements. LEO's cracking down on aggressive driving around commercial vehicles,as I have witnessed here in the Bikini State.Having combined the DOT and our Highway Patrol into a single unit here has made improvement,as the troopers now have to have a class and undergo a basic understanding of commercial vehicles. Maybe a slight swing for the better in our direction. It probably won't go far, but every little bit helps.

Yeah, I know it's preaching to the choir. I just felt the need to vent a little bit. Specially after I got notified by the borough this week I can no longer park my truck bobtail on my property anymore (been doing it for a year and a half) because it is against a zoning ordinance. So I'm POd at everyone right now lol.

This guys whole family is a bunch of drunks. His brother got 2 DUI's on the same day. Drove away from both of them (yes the officer actually let him drive home, then he got stopped later that day and that cop let him drive home). That is the state of enforcement in PA anymore...unless your vehicle has more than 4 wheels that is.

If we are held to a higher standard, then it should make sense for others to upkeep a higher standard too.
For example, when a polititian embezzles, or cheats, or lies, or doesn't hold his promises, he should be stripped of office, and barred from speaking in public!
If a doctor or shrink touches or molests somebody, they too should be stripped from title, and banned from personal contact with people.
A pilot and impared flying.... a lawyer and cheating, a priest, coach, or mentor and sexual abuse..... A musician, actor and drug offences.....
all too often these people have great council or excuses and are let off lightly.

We as professionals should be commended and rewarded for safe driving. How about a free medical, and no fee license renewal, just a nice pat on the back for being the true pros we are. And how about cutting premiums for auto insurance instead of grouping us into the general pool of 4 wheelers, and treating us like them.

One of the biggest differences seen by the government is that we are engaged in business. When conducting a commercial operation the opportunity for oversight, regulation, and rammifications for transgressing these regulations is much greater. The four-wheeler may be driving to work, however, when driving to work they are not engaged in business (well, from a hypothetical point of view) and doing so in a personal vehicle. That's the crux, they're doing it in a personal vehicle, same reason a doctor who's never driven anything larger than an SUV can buy a 60,000lb. motorhome and not be required to perform any training, obtain special licensing, carry logbooks, etc.

There is a part of me that says that I would like to see stricter enforcement of traffic laws around the four-wheelers. I agree with the no-zone stuff. That being said, as other's have noted, this is our job, it's our profession. We are expected to be more competent at driving and handling a vehicle. And, at the end of the day, I think we all like this distinction, that any old person right off the street could not just jump in a truck and get it down the road and around the corner. At the end of the day, simply suck it up and deal with them.

If we are expected, and indeed viewed as being more competent, better trained, more experienced drivers then why when there is an accident involving a 4 wheeler vs a commercial vehicle is the burden of proof is on the commercial driver to show who was at fault? Wouldn't it stand to reason the amateur driver made the mistake? Yet unless you can provide proof you are not at fault law enforcement will usually take the passenger vehicles word over the "professionals'.

Go to a burough council meeting and ask for a variance. Plead your case. Are you a homeowner? If not get a statement from your landlord what an upstanding citizen you are.

Did one of your neighbors complain? Try to find out and make nice nice.

This problem presented in SoCal high desert and the truckers won. But they did show up.

If you're not bothering any of your neighbors, maybe get statements from them or a petition. No idling or APU at home!

    Good luck! You deserve it!

I'm going to see the zoning board and ask for a variance. The truck is parked off the street on our property that has alley access. I don't Idle it other than warmup before I leave and cooldown when I come home. At most it's parked there a few weekends a month. I'm sure one of the neighbors complained because my stepsons friends are heathens, not over anything I did. But we will see what happens. I miss my truck, trying to do my monthly accounting and left my logbook in the truck 10 miles away, need my logbook to record my days home for my per diem. So now I gotta do a 20mi round trip to get it.

I thought pa was starting to really crack down on dui's. Ive heard a lot of commercials for it on the philly area radio stations. Lots of 'drive sober or get pulled over signs' on the pa turnpike. But i guess its all.about enforcement. Also have seen a lot of speeding thru workzones on 276 and 476 with leo's present and they have just sat there. Thats where i worry the most cause the road workers are very close to the travel lanes and people still fly thru. I go thru below the speed limit and act as a rolling roadblock.

When it comes to.the lights issue with.four wheelers they usually dont know they have lights out and dont take the.30 seconds every now and then to check. Sometimes it other things. At 17 i had a headlight out from hitting a deer and got.pulled over 10 minutes after i hit it. The cop asked if i knew it was out and i said its cause of the hitting the deer when taking my girlfriend home. Just a warning but told me to get it fixed asap cause it.could be a ticket.
