Yeah I guess so. I'll just have to play around with the scales to figure out how to properly load my trailer. Thanks for the help!
Really close on rear axle ratings

Kow,
I'm also curious where the center of the hitch is, in relation to how much forward it is from the center of your rear axle.
Do you know that measurement? (Just wondering how much load is being transferred to the steer axle) -
it's directly over the rear axle.
-
That's what I figured. I've never hauled hotshot... but seen placement by a reputable installer, and he always had them between 4" to 6" forward of the rear axle centerline. I think the 4-6 varied by the truck he was installing it on. Might check further into that, as directly over rear won't allow ANY transfer to your steer axle, and put it all on the rear axle.Barbee's Girl Thanks this.

That's a good idea. Iv never seen anybody do that on a pickup but it definitely would help if I have room to spare on the front axle. Thanks!

Yep, it may come out you're running a bit light on the front steers. This fella I mentioned fabricated at least 100 gooseneck hitches from the ground up, and installed (welded) them in various pickups/duallys. Always had them mounted/installed forward of the rear axle.Kowclub173 and cnsper Thank this.

What is that
-
What is what? If you're referring to the hitches, he had a shop where he had a general pattern for common duallys, but also fabricated hitches with slightly different design according to frame variations of other pickup manufacturers. Basically, he'd craft the hitches out of steel channel (fairly wide) and plate steel. Weld them up, lift the bed off the truck, and weld them to the frame, placing the ball about 4" to 6" forward of the rear axle. The hitch framework had to conform to the curvature as seen in most pickup frames.
