I really need advice:
I purchased a 1600W inverter and wired it to the battery....Problem: From my understanding the remote kill switch you can buy only kills the outlets...I wish to kill power to the unit completely from a switch mounted in the cab while leaving the inverter switch to the on position....for clarification....I wish to turn it on/off with a switch.
Any advice will help....

Does your power inverter have a remote.aka.acc wire.or is it just power and ground
-
power/ground
-
only switch is the one on the unit itself
-
a starter solenoid on the positive terminal would do it. get one at any auto parts store. like this http://www.amazon.com/Ford-SW3-Star...0488468&sr=8-1&keywords=ford+starter+solenoid
you'd also need a toggle switch and some wire to send the signal to the solenoid. -
battery is avg.14.5 volt will that solenoid be ok
-
I don't think you'd have any problems with it since it is generally used to send power to the starter which is much more demanding than your inverter. However, perhaps one designed for continuous duty like this would fit your application better... http://www.amazon.com/Cole-Hersee-24059-BP-Insulated-Continuous/dp/B0064MX7US/ref=pd_sim_auto_6

a simple battery switch like a battery shutoff on freightliner would handle the voltage
-
If you use a fuse on your power wire (that I recommend you do) you can just remove the fuse when not in use. A cuircuit breaker for 12volt cars would also work.

why do you need to kill the dc side of it? If its turned off it wont draw power.
