I was in orientation with Werner down here at the Atlanta terminal and everything was going good until they told me that I was going to have to take a bus to the Omaha, Nebraska terminal to sit in a motel and wait for a trainer. I should have recognized an issue when I got to the motel that evening and was talking with a few other Werner drivers, for most the story was the same. They had finished orientation roughly 3-4 days ago and were sitting in the motel until a trainer came to get them. Others were waiting on a truck. If my recruiter (Terri), had told me this was going to happen, I would not have wasted my time even going to orientation. She said that she had never heard of this sort of thing happening. Has anyone else had this issue either with Werner or another company? Is it a common issue? Atruckdrivingpilot

It is common practice with them. As far as the recruiter, get used to being lied to.

Yes, for Werner this is common place. I remember being in a motel, starting for a company, and Werner drivers were in motels for WEEKS! They would come down every day...see if Werner had a truck available and if they didn't, they would go back up to room to wait another day. It was the most ridiculous thing I have ever witnessed. There is no way in HELL I would go to Werner. Werner is so mis-managed it is beyond pathetic...

I was afraid of that...Who would you reccomend driving for? I can't work for Schneider right now as I don't have any experience and they want at least 6 mos. Is there anyone worth driving for and that can get me on the road ASAP (instead of sitting in a motel) LOL. Thanks for the replies gentlemen.

just remember newbie, this is a stepping stone in your new ocupation, hurry up and wait, i drove for 20 yrs. it will get better after you have about 2 to 5yrs. under your belt. it seems all the big companies do the same, put you in a truck with someone you do not know, hell they probably only have 6 mos. exp. i have seen a lot of drivers give up due to some trainer. but hang in there, it is what you make of it once you get some seat time move on to a private company, that,s what i did, worked for small bakery, made good money untill they sold out to a bigger company. good luck and be safe WOODSTOCK.

flight training at least you can fly home when stuck at a terminal, lol 68,000.00 a years wages for most good drivers with a good company, i wish you well, stay in touch and let me know how you are doing, i miss the road a great deal, have a safe and profitable trip WOODSTOCK
