Most of the dispatchers I have dealt with had to have had a lobotomy, that can be expensive so you better have good insurance to pay for it.
Skydivedavec Thanks this. -
I prefer a bottle in front of me instead of a frontal lobotomy.
Voyager1968 and Skydivedavec Thank this. -
Do you really want to deal with a bunch of drivers and only make 35-40k?then have to explain to your boss why such load wasnt delivered on time,no thank you.

Dispatch is part off my job, I manage an automotive railhead. The worst thing is the babysitting. You will soon discover there is a severe shortage of critical thinking skills in our country, and micromanaging of drivers by these companies only encourages further intellectual laziness. I deal with o/o carhaulers, Who you think would have it more together than most drivers, and it's still a problem, especially with the younger guys.
You'll find it to be a glorified clerical job at most companies, with little decision making left to the dispatcher, as that part of the job is relegated to load planners. So if your desire is to listen to whiny drivers all day, and be able to do very little on your own to solve their problems, you have found your dream job!Last edited: Sep 26, 2014

I am a dispatcher for a small family owned company and I love it. I have medical insurance 100% company paid a company truck and yes only gross about 55k a year. I have 7 drivers 2mechanics and about 13 fork lift drivers to babysit each and every day and love it. After 30 years driving I am done with it. When I think I want to go back driving I take one of our trucks and go do a load and that cures my itch and can't wait to get back to my office. If it is really what you want to do look there are better jobs out there than with a mega carrier and the most experience you will need is common sense.
