For the record I don't drive a aero truck either, don't like em. I have a big hood W900L with a big horse yellow motor that averages 5.5 when I behave. I could care less about the possible fuel mileage difference.

I'll take my Century with 7.2 mpg at 72 mph and a full load. I was pulling 7.8 with 16K in the box

If your happy with that setup thats great. Would I like to get that kind of fuel mileage? Sure! But for me owning my own truck is more than making more than a company driver. I also want to drive what I want to drive. For some its an aero truck, for guys like Ethan and myself we want the big hoods. To sit here and argue which is better is like comparing McDonalds to Longhorn Steakhouse.

I bought my century not for the hood. But for the room. More room in the cab/sleeper than what a KW or Pete have to offer.

Enough so, my next consideration would be a Classic or a Coronado.

Give me a Coronado Glider, I'd stick a pre-egr 14L DDS60 in that thing with 13spd and a set of 3.42's any day of the week.

I just want a reliable truck that gets the loads delivered on time with the least amount of repainrs needed. But if I have my choice, I'll take the hood......... unless the COE is a pre-80's model that's been restored, then I'll be in that baby in a heartbeat!!!

I picked my current Lowmax because i have always loked the LOW look with the big grill. Many guys tell me I am crazy for running a flat-top truck OTR, but I feel that a sleeper is just that, for sleeping. I don't want to live back there, and I prefer to spend my downtime at home or in a hotel, not in a 80" bunk. Plus a flat-top looks cooler LOL

Funny you mention that about a cab over. I'm still kicking myself for not buying one I had found 2-3 years ago. It was an 84 I believe Kenworth flat top with the big bunk. Completely repainted, out of frame overhaul, new 13 speed trans, reman rears, and frame stretched to 270" He offered it to me $14,000. I was/am an idiot for not doing that. That is my dream truck.

lol, reading this thread is a comedy act. some say here they are getting fantastic mileage, then in other gripe they arent getting fuel mileage.

whether you are driving a hood, a anteater (me) , a cabover , or akids big wheel pulling a red wagon, its all about making money.

but i will say this, when ya buy your first truck it should be about what will make give you the best chance to be successful out the gate. once you are established and have a clue about running the business, then looks and preference can be given some leeway.

but honestly if the major buying point for a first purchase is how long the hood is, the odds are stacked against you. now if ya many years experience behind you, it will help.

remember you cant eat chrome, or pay a mortgage with it, or pays for kids braces etc. get established THEN go for some bling.

but on another note, if ya had started driving over 30 years ago when the predominant truck a dang cabover you would consider any conventional tractor a hood, lol. i remember the first time i got a conventional tractor, i was amazed i could put my pants on standing up and not laying down on the bunk.

drive a cabover for 10 -12 years and you wont care how long the dang hood is
