hello everyone, I was going to park my truck yesterday and I hear a loud bang from the rear of it. I was able to move it with the power divider. I was able to deliver my load and come back and park. I had a guy sit in the truck and let the clutch out and the drivershaft was turning with the pwer divider not engaged.I thought the output shaft was broken but i removed the front cover that included the power divider. The shaft wasn't broken so I am thinking that the spyder gears are broken in the rear. Is it possible that ring gear could be broken as well i saw some effects of grinding on the part of the ring that rides near the pinion. A ll replies would be appreciated. thanks nate

Both are possible. Diff needs to come out to repair either.
-
Get out the ky for the checkbook,
This is gonna hurt.
One repair i won't even consider doing myself. Reading gear patterns and mic reading are just something you find a reputable shop for. Before you need it. -
well if it needs to be rebuilt and he would like to exchange his {core} it will be in the ball park of 1500 or so
-
Will they take it as a core with that much damage?
Good time to consider a new ratio if you don't like what you got. -
Might just be the spider gear cluster for the power divider. you can replace this yourself if you have a dial indicator and can get the nut off the yoke. The lock for the power divider didn't break which is why you could still drive with it locked.

The less you drive it the better. Pull it out ASAP. I had the spider gears and cross break in my DS 404. The shafts then stuck out of the carrier and sheared off the casting where the pocket bearing sits. Turned my $1200 core into $20 worth of scrap.

Been there done that, read this thread I started last year....the carrier bearing broke on mine and caused the chunk to sit at an angle. Me driving it with the power divider locked in also ate up an axle!! http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...eelers/144028-springdale-ar-repair-shops.htmlbullhaulerswife Thanks this. -

I already took front diff out and replaced it with a reman from transaxle baltimore. I gotta finish putting in driveshaft and u joints etc on sunday.
