Getting another truck and we want a sleeper this time. Almost home every night but lots of waiting time. A small sleeper would be nice but maybe it would be a detriment if should ever have to get rid of it? Anyway we get into some really tight deliveries and I'm afraid the guys are used to "cheating" and looking out the rear window of our day cabs. I guess I would like to know does the window on the back of a sleeper help or can't you ever see anything out of it anyway? Can you see your trailer wheels on a 45 degree turn ? Maybe the side windows are more important? We are forced to back in some corners on the blind side too. Regardless I want some windows in the sleeper. A dark sleeper is depressing and dingy looking.
Rear window on sleeper question

You don't have anywhere near the visibility compared to a day cab, but it does brighten the interior. Doesn't help at all with backing imo.
David_Simpson and Bean Jr. Thank this. -
Some of our truck at my company have the side and back windows in our 36" sleepers. Haven't driven them so I dont know about the visibility but I would think you could see out of them pretty good.

The ability to use the rear window of a non-sleeper is because the driver's seat is right there. The field of view is cut down greatly once the driver has to look through a window that is 4 feet away.
BoxCarKidd and j_martell Thank this. -
Guy I work with just got a 389 Pete with the 44'' flat top. We do A LOT of blindside backing so he ordered it with rear window and side window on passenger side. Says if he had to choose between the two that the rear window is most helpful and the side window is nice but if he didn't have it he wouldn't miss it. He had a 63'' bunk with a just rear window on the last truck and said that it was useless past 45 degrees. Says the rear window on the new one is so much closer he dips his head into the sleeper just a bit and can see trailer wheels just fine.

Thank you so much, I kind of figured that. I actually took a toy semi with short sleeper and tried to visualize it. Really really appreciate it!

No problem!

Now I found out I can almost get a 52" sleeper for same price. Would you want to ask your boss if he thinks that would make a big difference? I know it wouldn't be as good.

LOL he's not my boss. I'm an owner operator he is a fellow owner operator at the company we both lease to.

A window can be spec'ed to go into the rear bulkhead of the sleeper but you give up a certain privacy.
If it is a dark sleeper you dislike, try one in which there is a huge sunroof over the cab instead. You can really brighten a sleeper along with the high level windows in the upper berth of the sleeper.
Never mind what the driver does with eyes while backing, If there is a window I will use it. Otherwise I'll just back her the same old way. It's no big deal backing. I realize it might be for some drivers. But to me I don't stress about it.
Ultimately you can have a interior installer professional put in small LED lighting designed to improve the mood of a dark and depressing sleeper to one you want to spend time in.
