Essentially, it boiled down to getting paid $10.50 CAD/hr (about a dollar over minimum wage here at the time) for a job that paid on average about $17-19/hr.
Running regional package delivery for a concession supply company, driving cargo vans and a 5-ton truck, banking overtime hours with no payout (as required by law if they are not used) and being offered a $1/hr raise despite not making enough to pay bills was an insult for how hard I was working.
Now I'm working my dream job, and while I miss working with the fellows in the warehouse, it was a positive life change.
Reason for leaving last job?

I'm glad I've been lucky enough not to have been subject to being called names from a screaming boss or a boss that followed me to my car, beat on my car windows and continued cursing at me because just reading that got my blood boiling.

I left a job one time because I dated the bosses daughter (with her encouragement of course) and well that didn't work out too well. lol.

The only thing I'm worried about is what my old supervisor will say when the trucking company asks him the same question.tinytim Thanks this. -

Opportunity is opportunity, it usually doesn't keep to a prescribed schedule.

To all those turning this confession into a sign of weakness or a macho pissing contest about who can put up with the most hostile work environments while still remaining cool and unaffected...
Congratulations! You win!
Newsflash: Humans have feelings!
Hearing some random trucker on a cb telling dick jokes is not the same thing as having to endure the economic blackmail of being screamed at by the person who controls your family's livelihood, and not being left any choice but to either endure recurring instances of verbal abuse while being taunted that I'm too chicken, too stupid, too careless, and too soft or be left back at square one, unemployed, despite being a very good worker.
This guy was a psycho. He literally got red in the face and screamed at someone when they didn't do something the way he wanted, because he never even explained it to them in the first place. I'm a pretty intuitive person, and this guy looked at me like he wanted to kill me on more than one occasion. I never saw anything like it before.
Oh sure, I could have reported him to the next higher in the chain of command, but that was his dad, and most co-workers assured me he was even more of a monster. Otherwise I would have.
I had the last straw moment where he started going off on me, following me to my car, and taunting me.
Well you know how that made me feel? It made me feel like turning the guy's face into a bloody pancake with my fists, and it took me quite a bit of self-restraint not to. I still feel the anger when I think back to that day.
It surprises me how much people like this get on such a power trip and bully their workers on a regular basis. Don't they take into consideration all the workplace shootings that have happened in this country?
And that's still a problem in this society.
So, go ahead and ask me just how many more times in my life I could tolerate similar situations.
Patience and tolerance are virtues not signs of weakness.
I agree with the other poster about just keeping your head down, not talking to anyone, and just getting the job done. There are a lot of decent people out there, but are there are also a ton of people with an axe to grind. I just don't get it.TequilaSunrise, SHOJim and tinytim Thank this. -
You're overthinking this.insipidtoast Thanks this. -
You've had plenty of legitimate responses advising you how to move forward. I have even suggested some of them! Guess what! I'm the dude that would hire you. However, I wouldn't hire you and my company takes almost anyone.
You have alot of room for self growth. Sure your boss was a dick, but sobbing about it on the internet when your trying to move forward doesn't help. Stop looking back, stop dwelling. Move forward, take the next step then the next step, set goals. Attain them and achieve.
Until then ####.
