First, there was deregulation. Everybody and their brother went out and bought a truck. All these new people entered the trucking industry.

Secondly, they limited everybody to 55 mph. The industry needed more people to do the same amount of work AND we had to replace those who got PO'd and quit. Whole bunch of new people again.

Then came the CDL. Weeded out bunches of good drivers and, again, we had to replace all the quitters. Another bunch of newbies.

Lastly, the HOS fiasco. More people needed to accomplish the same level of performance and more drivers PO'd and quitting. New people, AGAIN!

If there is solidarity in ANY group, the easiest way to undermine that solidarity is to bring in new people. I believe the goal of the government in all these events is to undermine solidarity. Without solidarity any organized strike is impossible.

With REAL solidarity the threat alone will suffice.
