I always think it is better to be safe than sorry. If you have a bull gear failure it will cause a catastrophic engine failure

It is for good mechanics. If the block is not cut, you will have a premature head gasket failure

agree, why I changed all pumps. When the bull gear went I could hear loud knocking over headphones and felt my pedal vibrating

    Rideandrepair and bad-luck Thank this.

That's not a bad price. People very often shine on the bull gear on the overhaul, then $15K later for a new bull gear set up, they have a good engine.

That's funny, maybe you would've caught it a bit sooner if you didn't drive with ear muffs on? Just a guess...

    What's a bull gear?

Like a timing gear or something?

Rideandrepair, Suspect Zero and Numb Thank this.

That's why 60's sound like there's a leprechaun under the hood with a tiny hammer banging on the block.

You’re 100% right. Had been hearing the ticking noise for approx 2.5 months, thought maybe a rocker arm, got a overhead done that didn’t fix it, so just decided to run it till it breaks. I think I actually did it in pretty good one final time pullin side by side a bullhauler on 287 near Vernon. Broke down about an hour after that haha running solid now though

    LameMule and Rideandrepair Thank this.
