I've been reading that it's basically the same cost to replace the whole top hat assembly as it to rebuild it, true? I've got too much slack in my fifth wheel and need to do something about it soon.

Not sure if it's going to matter but the 5th is a xa-3501-a-lh Holland. Older model I believe.

We just replaced one. Jost makes a replacement top plate for a Holland and I believe it was like $600. The plate we replaced had some wear so it was an easy decision.

Just parts to rebuild mine have been quoted in the $450-500 range. Looks like Jost replacement might be the way to go. Have you been happy with it thus far?

There are a lot of rebuild believers here for 5th wheels. I am not one of them. I think replacement is the way to go. The plate and throat will also be worn so you will always have some play after a rebuild. Unless the plate is mint I would replace it. Everything is now brand new, no questions about liability. Now the new 5th wheel is under warranty, any problems and you don't have to worry about. And yes, the costs really are close enough.

Another advantage of the Jost is that the major wearing components can be replaced without removing the fifth wheel from the pedestal.

Did you guys just grab these from dealerships or ?? I checked Jost's site and their dealership finder didn't seem to be working for me.
