I've had my own authority since January 2016. I've received notice of my first safety audit. Mind you, I'm only a 1 man dog & pony show, yet, take a lot at the thickness of this spiral notebook I put together with all the documentation they want for the audit ;-)

Even though I'm very organized and systemic in my filing practice, I scan every record & receipt I handle and categorize the files into electronic folders, it still took me many hours to assimilate and transfer the files onto paper.

I'm not complaining or whining, I just thought I'd share this with guys who are looking to get their own authority or haven't had their first audit yet.

You'll be fine. Looks like ya got all your stuff together. It's a pretty simple process basically just checking to make sure your doing everything right and help with what they feel you maybe lacking

TallJoe and Scooter Jones Thank this.

Since this is my first audit, here's what they want:
    1. Insurance and Economic Documentation (current)
    2. Controlled Substances and Alcohol Testing (since inception)
    3. Accident Records (since inception)
    4. Driver Qualification Records *that includes a LOT of stuff
    5. Hours of Service Records Logs, includes supporting documents like fuel receipts, etc (previous 6 mos)
    6. Equipment Maintenance Records, including supporting documents like receipts, inspections (since inception)
    7. Hazmat Materials Records (does not apply to me)

Wow! Now I know what to expect. I'm getting a headache already. I suppose it's better to have too much documentation than not enough. Good luck.

So what if the O/O does their own work...I suppose parts receipts would suffice?

Being a one man show how often do you have to do a random on yourself?

    Badmon Thanks this.

I do my own. I keep a note book for each truck and trailer. I just write date miles and work done. She never looked at my receipts on anything. Just looked through the records on 1 truck and one wagon

When I got my new entry audit, they wanted me to upload records to their website and only wanted to see 1 month worth of records (could be any month)

    TallJoe Thanks this.
