I thought it was going to be pretty casual when I put in for my authority. But then I had to fill out an app to hire myself, take a pre employment drug test to work for myself, and conduct a background check on myself. The cool thing, though, is that if I ever decide to hire somebody else then it will be that much easier to do. Congrats on your audit, Scooter.
Received notice of my first FMCSA audit...

At these audits, do they ever need to see the equipment, or it is just the paperwork? And Do they dig deeper with the logbooks such as asking you to pull out the fuel card statements or tollways transponder statements to see the exact hours and minutes? Has that higher level of scrutiny ever happened to anyone during the first audit?
-
Mine didn't. However, it's likely because of the way I came prepared and presented myself. I briefly walked her through all the documentation she asked for in context and order.
She was very impressed with the BigRoad logging software I use, even writing down the name of the company for future reference.
She seemed focused on the employment records and the vehicle maintenance schedule.
Which I had and took her through. It's important to demonstrate that you have a proactive vehicle maintenance process in place and that your are following it.TallJoe Thanks this. -
I will also add that she specifically told me how many operators come unprepared and it reflects poorly on them.
She said when she starts digging in and the guy gets defensive, she interprets that as they have something to hide.
Bottomline is keep good records, come prepared and it's no big deal. -

The driver qualification stuff is so stupid. You are required to get the driving records from the state, previous employers, etc but yet there is no criteria specified. A driver could have the worst record imaginable and if they have a valid license they can drive. If you as a carrier don't care what is the point? Don't even get me started on the files for yourself.

I've been through the same audit finally. I have a few "after the fact" questions...and I did not want to start another thread about it. So... Everything was in good order, so I was told by the DOT auditor. It's been over a week already and I don't see any indication on the Safer Web Site that I had that audit yet. I did not receive any document stating that I passed the audit at the time there in the DOT building either. I forgot to ask about it.
Do they send anything like that via mail, so I have something on file stating I passed that audit? Does it take some time? Should that Safer profile show anything to that regard? Right now, I don't have any indication that I even went there....Thank you. -
The letter was sent out on June 30th, the audit was performed on March 2nd.
As far as the SAFER status goes, the only thing mine shows is that I'm in good status.Knucklehead and TallJoe Thank this. -
