If using a broker notify them now, sometimes they over order and catch the mistake when you deliver the load. and guess who's they going to blame.

Go to nearest store, get some starter, walk back into that receiving office with the craziest look you can muster and ask them if they are sure.

Refused as in total and utter rejection of the entire truck load?

Well, in my time you took it home and tried to sell what you could and burned, ate the rest or used it somehow in your own life whatever it might be rejected.

Otherwise it goes back to the Shipper or resold to whole sale.

I have had several loads rejected with prejudice in my time. Two went into landfills. Three went back to shipper all the way back across the USA. Four were resold to wholesalers who buy on the cheap and sell to those who cannot afford (Or will pay) full retail.

One was interesting. A load of center cut steaks. The customer (Port of New Orleans) rejected 600 pounds of the stuff packed in 65 pound tubes. OSD made sure I gave a exact accounting of that particular load and made sure I understood that I was not free to do with that particularly valuable product as I pleased. (I had a cross dock buyer with a certain amount of cash waiting on the yes or no word. Turned out it was insured. And it was resold to a wholesaler. The dear Louisiana neighbor was disappointed but he knew the law as well as I did. (Even today Im not sure if it was a sting man or not. He displayed a little too exact knowledge of the situation.)

The worst rejectors are walmart distribution. 10 minutes late to the gaurdshack past appointment time. Sprout a complaint about traffic. If the gaurd person buys it (Tears and all) you get to go in. Otherwise you are OUT with a load to baby sit for a week as punishment for being late. Which totally destroys your next reload, preplans etc. (Along with income)

Im pretty cautions inside a walmart knowing what goes on in those places. I don't buy too much of anything other than what is essential.

Another time I had a customer hand me a pallet of butter. NO GOOD! TAKE IT BACK! Boss says eat it. It's your fault. And Im taking this out of your check. (400 pounds of stick butter. Maybe 200 bucks at the time retail)

That butter would become a very memorable solution to a really bad loading problem in downtown NY. They told me no steel for long time. Forgetabout it. (It's 11 am...)

I point to the entire production floor building palletiezed layers of steel stuff and then point to the stack of butter of good quality in the corner of my trailer and say I pay you this, you load fast.

Everyone in there had plenty of butter and I had my pallets of steel products and gone in 20 minutes.

Boss man asked how in the world did you get out so fast, it takes all day to load there. I told him that was the butter I paid for. (I never got sent back there for that steel product, and never was docked the value of the butter. Loading and getting out while it's lunchtime across the GWB was of great value for possibilities in getting to customer early in Virginia and reload towards the end of the week.

Call your dispatcher let them know load was rejected. Wait for further instructions. Most likely you will have to go to a truck stop and park until another buyer can be found for the load. Your dispatcher and the load broker will work out the details. It will get picked up on the cheap.
