Mark dont take offence to what we are saying. We know that some drivers are jerks and that at times loads show up late. I showed up late for an appt time ny 6 hrs once due to a break down, it was no falt of my own and the receiver worked me in the best he could, 4 hrs later after I got there. I had no trouble with the clerk he was a nice guy and with all the other trucks that had to u/l he did the best he could. I was happy with that. Its not his fault the truck broke down and I wont hold that that on him. sometimes those things happen and our out of our control.
We know you guys have bad days too.
The point we are making here is the receiving clearks and docks that treat drivers like crap for just being there. I am sure as an ex-driver you had run into a few.

I have, but most of the problems are because of the drivers. Trust me, I sometimes have to remind myself that I drove a truck. Day in and day out I have to put up with azzhole drivers, it does sour the experience for the rest of the better drivers. I can tell you from my experience that the jerk and azzhole drivers are starting to out number the better drivers.
I have the most trouble with the large company drivers, and small ones that don't give a crap about there equipment companies. 9 out 10 times if a small company driver shows up with clean and well maintained truck and trailer he or she will be a good driver.

There is no excuse for that driver. Did he even bother to call, or have his dispatch call to say that he would be late, for whatever reason? If not, then he has nothing coming. Even if he did call, he should realize that he is just going to have to wait to be "worked in."
Or did he start giving you lip when you screamed at him "WHERE-THE-HELL-HAVE-YOU-BEEN???"
I'm not saying I think you did that, but if you did, it just might impact his attitude.
Hmmm, if you are having that much trouble with drivers, perhaps you need to evaluate the way your company is doing something?
No, of course not. But perhaps he started to get irate because of your attitude when dealing with him?
You know, when the majority of the folks that you are dealing with, no matter who they are, or what your business is, are azzholes? Well, then maybe it IS time to do a reality check. Most PEOPLE, drivers, dock personnel or otherwise are NOT azzholes.
OK, now the clean and well maintained equipment IS a statement that I can agree with.
Frankly, Mark, from the tone of your posts, you sound like you may be in the wrong line of work. During my law enforcement days, I attended a class on "Dealing With Difficult People." We went through the entire class talking about "the other guy." The last fifteen minutes were spent on "looking in the mirror to find the problem."
Over the years I have found that the majority of folks working shipping/receiving are guys just trying to get the job done. Just normal folks. But then I have run across some that started out, expecting ME to be an azzhole, and when they found out I wasn't going to stoop to their level, they started treating me decently. I've also had ones that had the old ego trip. "This is MY DOCK. It will be run MY way. I am GOD here."
Of course it is there dock. But usually an attitude like that is the product of a very insecure individual.

I was one of those that learned early on that you attract more flies with honey than with vinegar. When I was younger, I had the tood that, "I have your freight, therefore I am the one in control. You want your stuff? You cater to me.". That wore off quick. Now, whenever I run across a delay, I take it in stride. "Our lift ran out of fuel." Me: "That's fine. I'll be here when you're ready.". That sort of thing. I talked to a lift driver one day and we were talking about this very thing; drivers getting attitude. He told me that when he gets a driver with tood, something invariably goes wrong (flat on lift, broken door, whatever) and that driver has to wait.

Mine was reefer side too maybey the got rid of the jerk i had to go arround back were ther were no lights.

I treat all driver with respect until they decide to be treated with out it. I have never raised my voice to a driver.
I remember what it's like to drive for a living.
I work for one of the top 10 companies in the world, I have no control over who the company chooses to use as shippers. They are looking for the lowest bottom line, all they care about is the cost. To them all trucking companies do the same thing.
Would you like me to name some of the companies we deal with? But most of you already know them.
You need to come to work with me for a week then.
I like my line of work............As long as the driver is "normal" and not giving off attitude then I'm fine, but more and more drivers are giving the attitude. I always give the driver the benefit of the doubt, until he puts his foot in it.
I manage the receiving goods warehouse, along with 3 people that work for me. All the products that go into the final product I have to unload, sort, store, and deliver through out the plant.
Most drivers show up with the attitude that I must be unloaded the moment they get here. I have 4 dock doors, and I always have at least one driver that will back into a door without asking. It's printed in 1" bold lettering on the paper from the guard shack, "Don't Back into a Dock Unless Directed" Should I still treat him the respect?
My primary responsibility is to keep production running by delivering items from the warehouse to the production floor. Unloading trucks is the last priority I have. How about the driver I tell "back into dock one, I will unload you when I can." Then he proceeds to ask me every 15 to 20 minutes if I started to unload him yet?

What I'm trying to say is that not all driver are bad, but the percentage is going up.

bozuttos cheshire,ct 7 hours waiting some guys had been there more than 24 hours...
ltl gus would come in sit wait about an hour call their boss and leave...
they will cuss you out for calling and asking for directions... -
Not all receiver are good either......................When I drove I remember a few, but they are all grocery warehouses.
