A friend of mine just got his CDL, he is looking to get into flatbedding, what companies will take drivers with no experience besides the bigger otr bottomfeeders like western express, gypsum express, tmc, and melton? he is looking for something regional, not otr.

i looked around, and told him to try Modular transport, Four Star trans, Alco, Capacity, P I and I, and tandem transport. so far, alco, capacity, and tandem want 1 year exp, he cant get a person on the phone at four star, modular and pi and i hasnt called back.

any steelhaul companies that hire new guys?3

Falcon Transport hires new CDL graduates and they haul lots of steel products to auto manufacturing plants.
    Jordan Carriers
    Builders Transportation Company
    Decker Truck Line

Melton and TMC aren't bottom feeder companies and those drivers make $50K-$60K or more per year.
Your friend needs to stay off the phone until he submits some online applications; then follow up with a phone call unless it's some local company where he can walk in the office. Just because a company website says "experience required" doesn't make it so.

true, but it seems the opposite happens, companies will advertise about taking new cdl holders, then come to find out, thats a maybe, and it depends on if they h ave their current fleet filled with drivers.

Not sure about the hiring area; can't get the website to open.

NTB Inc. is a good reefer outfit in Michigan with good pay and hometime. They hire new CDL grads.

When I lived in Nashville, one of my neighbors drove for Falcon Transport flatbed division and he was satisfied with the company.

Modular out of Gr is the only one I was thinking. I'm from Gr and drive van for Roehl. I wouldn't put Roehl in with the bottom feeders but they are large, 2000 trucks. Might be worth checking out, pm me if he is interested,I can give him the scoop from a Michigan perspective.

a michigan perspective is a good thing! people dont realize the weight differences, and that mos things still revolve around the auto industry and its workforce.

he is hot and heavy now though, i guess cassens called him and told him that if he got his fast card, they would take him on.....no f much competition for teamster carhaul, as long as they give the job to him.....

Gypsum Express is not a bottom feeder they are one of the largest flatbed opperations in the us, they are a great company to work for that cares about there drivers, they pay really well and have weekend home time. alot of the loads are pre trapped too but not all talk to one of there recruiters they are the nicest i have talked to in the industry very strieght forward no lies

I will do my best to be impartial, but I am the in-house securement trainer for Modular. I think you will have good and bad days anywhere you go, I drove for several years for them and now I am in the office. I had days I wanted to pull my hair out, but like I said I think you will get that anywhere you go. If a decision hasn't been made let me know.
