I recently attended a truck driving school and during the entire process, I constantly questioned them about the speeding ticket I had acquired a year and a half ago. I was convicted of 19mph over the limit. I was told time and time again that it would not be a problem with getting a job after successful completion and graduation from the school. Well, since graduation I have been turned down by 4 companies due to this ticket. Does anyone know of a company that will hire someone with this type of ticket?? The 4 companies are U S Xpress, Schneider, Conway, and Werner.

Go to smaller companies, then it will be up to their insurance, the bigger ones probably won't touch you with someone else's 10 foot pole for at least another year and a half.

The conviction is on your MVR, a mitigating factor might be if the ticket was in a reduced speed area, like in town.

    Other than that, good luck.

Thank you for the info so far. I am waiting on a reply from a mass distribution of my application and Swift is on their list. I have also left messages today with some small companies that hire recent grads as well. Any other info will be gladly accepted!!

You've lucked out in the fact that those mega-carriers won't accept you. You have a much better chance at success in the trucking industry finding a smaller company or even an owner operator willing to take you on. Check out careersingear or bigrigjobs. These are pretty good sites. They have the companies requirements listed and what states they hire from. You may also want to comb through the OOIDA website. This is a really good website! Lots of good info and links to reputable companies. (not as good as the truckers forum though!) Keep in mind that the companies that are advertising as much means that their driver turnover rate is lower which in turn means that their drivers are happier there. Welcome to the forum and good luck to you!

Sometimes the companies listed requirements on a website are not the factual requirements that they accept. I have less citations than many of these companies have listed required (for example: "moving violations - no more than 2 in 3 years" or accidents - no more than 1-2 in 5 years, etc.) but when I call they still say "no, cannot take you." As some have told me here, the companies have too many drivers to choose from, so they don't have to go by their listed requirements. I agree, it is frustrating. I just hope I don't have any accidents, tickets, etc., this coming winter. I am being very conscientious of my driving now, making sure I make no mistakes that can get me a citation. I am hoping against hope Swift will take me after my 1 year "citation free anniversary from my last.
