Last week I graduated from Miller-Motte Technical College CDL program in Charleston, SC.
I plan on getting my tanker and hazmat endorsements later this week and I've started my TWIC application.

I have my eyes set on two companies........CTL transportation and Superior Carriers.
Any thoughts or recommendations on these two or other options I should be looking at?

I'm 21 years old, have a clean record (never been pulled over!), live in Charleston SC, and want to be out on the road as much as possible (i have no obligations).

I've talked to the CTL recruiter about an open chemical hauler position out of Savannah, GA. The pay starts at 45cpm loaded and empty. $100 a day for orientation and training including room and meals.
I can start my orientation next Tuesday.

I've seen a lot good posts about Superior Carriers on here and want to consider them before committing myself.
    What would you guys do?

Does Superior-Carriers hire 21 yr. old drivers?
I know CTL does and that's a good place to start.

Yes. They seem to have same requirements as CTL besides requiring a passport.

    Chinatown Thanks this.

Call the Superior terminal manager and talk directly to her. That is the only way you will know what's up. If you need to start working asap you might want to jump on tha CTL job. Superior takes a while to get through the hiring process. They will train you well however. Look up some of the golfpro threads in the tanker section. I believe he was with CTL. Training seemed lacking from his account.

Holy cow what a rollercoaster ride! All the mistakes he had.
Sending him off on a load to the Northeast with no EZ pass is criminal, especially for being a new driver that had to pay out pocket for the tolls!.

I'm going to call Superior tomorrow to see what they think of me at a glance. If i look like a potential candidate, ill postpone that orientation visit with CTL.

Thanks for bringing up golfpro's experience. It helped a lot!

Keep in mind that thread is 1 side of the story. Personally I think that Northeast load was an attempt to get him to quit without having to fire him. He is back doing what he loves coaching golf. Money isn't everything.

When you call ask for a face to face meeting and go talk to them in person. Dress business casual and be ready to sell yourself. They don't hire many students.

I've talked to Mary of recruitment. She told me that the hiring process takes 3-4 weeks before I would even start the training process. She sent an email to the Charleston terminal manager about our conversation and my interest. If they have an open spot for entry level, she'll contact me.

Superior is one of the best.
    There's also:
    Tidewater Transit
    Trimac Transportation
    SVTN
    McKenzie Tank Lines

Trimac "Elite Fleet" drivers can make over $100K, but it takes 24 months to qualify.
