:smt119 I have spent many nights in jail, I've been in cuffs, been in the backseat of a Police car. And I've had drugs on my person. You must be thinking "What kind of dirt bag am I" I was in Law Enforcement for 20 years. I worked in a Jail nights, when I went to training 4 Officers one car I got the back seat. Had cuffs put on during training. And I have removed drugs from people to be turned in as evidence. And in twenty years I never busted a truck drivers B#!!$. My Dad drove OTR forever (since pasted away) and I knew the type of person he was and I seen PUNK cops do punk moves on drivers. Just a little lite heart humor.

mnrider, you might try prime inc out of springfield mo. I am currently a trainee there and i am really impressed with the company so far. I come from a background of owning my own straight truck working for a courier company also. with prime you will have to driver 60,000 miles with a trainer, i know it sounds like a long time but it goes fast. after the 60,000 then you will have the option of doing 20,000 more miles (required) by yourself or with your trainer. they do this many miles for a few reasons in my opinion 1. getting the exp that you need to be confident out here on your own you definitely need to shown how to do things like backing in a tight space at shippers/recvrs, paperwork, qualcom, trip planning living on the road driving in city traffic at night and other things that i cant think of at this time. i am as skeptical as they come and i like you wanted to go with a co. that does not expect you to brk laws to make them money thats why i chose prime.EVERYTHING THAT THEY TOLD ME HAS BEEN TRUE. orientation was 2 1/2 days It started on wed morn and i got my trainer friday afternoon. as far as your background i would call prime rec and ask. but be honest THEY WILL CHECK YOUR ENTIRE CRIMINAL HISTORY. what they told us in orientation just be honest we will accept almost anything, just be honest.this industry is a lot like the courier industry only you are away from home for long periods.when they give you a job and a certain time to pick and deliver as long as you do that within a legal time frame of your hours you will be successful. i could be wrong,as I said before I am a trainee but as a single driver managing your 10/11/70 hours is everything just as important as being on time.but do your research on companies and make your decision i did and i am very happy with it so far. just my .02
