Hello, just wanted to introduce myself, I've been reading on here for about a week now and I believe there is some great information here.
Just retired from the Air Force, considering getting into trucking as a 2nd career. I'm finishing up my CDL course this week and should have my CDL A license very soon.
I enrolled in a driving school with the intention of having the CDL as a backup plan in case I have issues finding a job. However, I've enjoyed the class and I'm really starting to consider looking for a local driving job.
I've spent most of my time (on this forum) on the "ask an O/O" threads because I think this is where I'd like to eventually go. However, my biggest concern is my (at least at this point) unwillingness to be away from home. After 5 deployments, I feel like I've done my time away from home.
We just moved back to the Las Vegas area (I'd been stationed here before 2010-2014 and we really liked it) so I'd be looking for something in town or region.
Looking for thoughts/advice
Thanks all

I'm in Henderson and ex-Navy. Moved here and decided to try and survive in an Air Force town!
Yeah, Clark County is a good place to live.

Get all the endorsements, hazmat, tanker, and the rest of them. I can give you a list of places to apply with that are local.
Some may run to California and Arizona, but still will be back here each day.
~
Edit: many companies are bending the hiring rules because of needing drivers. Being a military vet really helps also with cutting some slack on experience. So, apply to companies, even if you don't thing you'll be hired.Last edited: Jan 3, 2022
