    HI

I was wondering what paychecks are like now during this economic crunch?? Can a new driver still get on with the better companies now? When I looked into this stuff 18 months ago it seemed liked new drivers started around .30 cents a mile. I guess that doesnt mean much if their only giving you a thousand miles a week.

    thanks

i have noticed that alot of companies that advertise high milage pay when starting out new, alot of the time (not all) their drivers dont get alot of miles. For exp a company saying they'll pay you .36 to start you might only see 800 miles a week. I was running teams with my younger brother and we were spliting 30% of the load but we only drove 800-900 miles a week and with freight being slow that doesnt help.

Well, the good news is that recessions inevitably come to an end. It will soon be an employees market once again, just be prepared to not make much in the next year or two while the market finds its' equilibrium once again.

That pretty much sums it up in a nutshell.

Trucking companies are paying less and less each day. I fully expect to see .28 & .30 as Top pay for experienced drivers within some companies, before the bottom is found.

    The unprepared will suffer tremendously.

I tell ya they rather hire inexperienced help instead of experienced just to keep from paying a little more.
I'm a witness to that because I called TMC a while back and asked them if they are hiring inexperienced drivers with CDL,she told me yes.
And when I asked her what if you have experience already what would they pay?
Her exact words were that "we are not hiring experienced drivers for economical reasons".
    I thought I misunderstood her but apparently I didn't.

Evidently experience doesn't mean a whole lot in this line of work.

Why pay an experienced driver .42 cpm when you can get a rookie to deliver the same load for only .28 cpm. Lower labor cost equals more profit for the company.

A newbie will do anything they are told, while enduring no heat or a/c due to idling restrictions, and do it all for less.

Experienced drivers have a tendency to do things "their way", and tell the company to stick it when pushed too hard. Plus they want more money and benefits.

I don't pull a flat. But I'm seeing a lot of them sitting. And a few of my friends are whining like you wouldn't believe. And the deadhead has increased, tremendously for some.

I left 5 flat bedders sitting in a ####hole of a truckstop this afternoon, as I was leaving to take my load home for the night.
