It's called a reconsign and you should be paid for it. Just remind broker that contractually your only obligated to deliver to address supplied to you. That Rate Con is a contract. They should sent you a update with few, or a new rate conn. Have it in writing.

Unless it was one of our regular customers I would always call ahead go verify delivery location. If it was anywhere other than the address on the bills I would let our office know and they’d get it sorted out. Plus if you know it’s a job site it can be helpful to let your dispatch know ahead of time as job sites sometimes aren’t the fastest to unload.

This would be a reconsignment in my book.
The fee charged was $150.00 for the reconsignment, plus a time charge of $75.00 per hour, 2 hour minimum. After that 15 minute increments.
Had a form letter thing for this.

Bet you would be surprised at the number of times that was accepted.

Creating a document in one of the office type systems is actually easy. You can also find free templates on the web, then modify them for your specific needs.
Microsoft and OpenOffice both have them for documents, spreadsheets plus all sorts of things.

Here’s what I do, I say ok I just need to clear it with dispatch. They don’t know if your a company driver or owner op. Call up the broker and tell him that they want you to deliver it another 40 miles away. also tell the broker listen they are going to pay someone 200-300 to do the trip since it’s going to be a local and that’s the minimum for local. See if the broker plays ball with you and encourage him to get you $200 for the short haul he will go to the shipper and charge 300 so he makes his end.

In other words make it worth while for the broker to work for you.

    Win win for all.

If I were an owner operator in your situation, I'd treat it like a lumper fee, a Capstone lumper fee. Time management and equipment use us everything

Delivered onions to Sanantonio and receiver told me that 2 pallets needed to go to another warehouse in town . I said I'm contracted to drop here any additional stop will require payment for additional stop and miles, so are you paying or broker ? Those pallets came off the truck no issues or extra stops .

Had a similar thing happen in OKC I delivered a load of potatoes and the receiver asked if I could take a couple pallets over to another location that they run out of. I said sure but I need to see with broker who will pay for it. Then the guy gets all pissy and says to me that all the other carriers they work with do it all the time for free. I’m like great call up one of them and have them come get it.

You did 100% the right thing. #### these people, this business is in shambles because people don’t do what you did. Nobody gives us a break. In my opinion things were the way they should be for independents in 2017-2018, also 2014. Now we are back to the same old ######## because people allow it. More people need to tell receivers or shippers to #### off when they are taking to long or when they pull stunts like they did with you. If half the owner operators in this biz had a backbone things would be much better. I may go broke soon from sitting, least I did it at home with my family and my dignity. Rather then hauling for people that don’t respect my time and that I am in business to provide a good life for my family.

another 40 miles will cost you let’s say a hour driving there, maybe a hour or so unloading, then it may possibly put you further from your reload. #### them. Charge em all you can.

I do a lot of job sites/crane moves/wind farms. Almost always a central yard that you go to and get escorted down the road. It’s usually a mile or 2. I personally don’t sweat that. They have their reasons for not wanting truck to show up on a certain pad without them.

But another town technically is a whole other game. I had one job that was supposed to be N Iowa. Ended up being southern MN. It was a good 20 miles. I definitely got some extra. I was like wft
