How far do they generally look back on driver's license records? I applied at Driver's Solutions and they had me pre-hired with USA truck when I spoke with a recruiter over the phone within a few hours of my online application. Their application asked me for 5 years of driving record. I am a Canadian citizen and have lived here, between Ohio and now Indiana for 5 full years, so I was able to provide that without adding my Canadian license info. I drove for 25 years in Ontario, Canada without so much as a parking ticket.
I am a permanent resident here but wonder if there could be a glitch or delay with USA truck because I am a Canadian citizen. I went through the immigration process and know how long it takes to get information from one country to another.
Thanks!!

generally they only go back 5 years. now this is dependent on your state DMV.....my state for instance, only goes back 3 years, so when i fill out an application, that's all i provide them. when the trucking company calls the state DMV (or DAC) for a driving record, they only get what the state goes back to, UNLESS the trucking company pays for the longer record search.

That requirement is NOT governed by state law, it's a requirement by the FMCSA. I sugest you take a look at FMCSR §383.35 Notification of previous employment. It's 10 years back if you drove a truck.

Auto insurance is completely different They only do a 3 year but the FMCSA governs trucking applications. They want a 10 year JOB histiry but the "lisence check" is company and their own insurance requirements. Self insured companies might only want 5 years but almost every job wantad I've seen lately wants 7 up and some with a "lifetime" limit!
To sum it all up there is no set limit, It's a company thing when looking at your drivers history. If you think yuoi're a Rarnhart on the road and have the tickets to prove it then maybe trucking ain't in the cards for you! -
John 10204 Dude, not to worry about the immigration thing. If you are documented (as in resident alien, Green card), you can work here. I know, I'm a Canadian citizen with a green card and there has never been a problem obtaining work. On the license issue, even if you need further back than 5 years, so what? You said you got a clean record.
john10204 Thanks this. -
I just want to get in school, get my cdl, start with USA truck training, and take my first years of lumps and bumps without delays. -
In the states, you can get your own record on your own. What about Ontario? If you can, go ahead and get it yourself, then you're covered.
