I always did the complete return. Maybe they really didn't need it (I'm betting they did), but that way there wasn't the extra back and forth of you need this or that. (which I hate)
Show the tax returns. Especially if it has really huge numbers on it. Show it all. Unless you were a politician, you wont have to show a #### thing after. Your payroll will be common knowledge to anyone with the right research material into near real time data on it. That's one good thing about being disabled. I don't have to file *&^% UNLESS I worked beyond a certain amount each year for wages. Then I will file no problem. Those returns are so tiny these days it's two forms, one to uncle sam under EZ and the other to state Similarly simple and if anything owed beyond withholding is paid back which usually happens anyway. I always make sure that my net pay covers gasoline and lunch to and from work, all the rest is withheld. I am allowed once in a life time experimental 9 months free work with taxes at any income level even if it paid millions. I just have not taken advantage of that program just yet. Literally because all employers test for legal drugs which I do take and automatically fail the employment drug test even at the tiny flipping burger level. If you were to examine my pain doctor's recent last 5 drug tests, you will find almost 4000 dollars has been spent specifically hunting for drugs like meth. Which is silly Never touched the stuff. But the insurance company has to pay it. Im just waiting for the letter that cuts me off because at this rate of testing and scans coming on, Im fixing to bill them about 50,000 dollars in medical work this year alone.
Exactly! I was self employed before I started driving. I only had one recruiter tell me I needed to give her my tax returns. My response was not polite. And, needless to say, I didn't get the job.
Thats one weird thing that irks me. If its not related experience then it's not relevant. What you do with your time is not their business. But it is what it is.
Yeah but it doesn't have to be verified. It has more to do with driving for other trucking companies and nothing else. I ask for all of it BUT when it comes to verifying the list of jobs or activities, I don't press it to the point that it gets stupid, asking for tax returns are stupid.
Yes .. its a form of employment verification Also useful if you ever work for a place thats gone out of business and cant be reached for verification
A carrier is bound per the FMCSA rules to ask for up to a 10 year driving history (CDL history) the carrier is NOT required to verify through you this history. However the carrier is bound per FMCSA rules to build a driver qualification file and annually renew it. If a carrier is asking for tax records I suggest you to comply and ask about redactions. If you don't want to drive for that carrier then go find a carrier that will accept your word. Most of you have no idea what happens internally when an application is made. To answer the OPs question is is actually not common. Most carriers have other means to verify information. Bottom line if you want to drive for that company provide the tax records, otherwise go look somewhere else.
Thanks. I will not be going any further with that carrier. I had them low on the list of carriers, and that request totally removed them from me going any further in the process.
