    Wow, that number is not good. My fiance and I just graduated school today. We still have offers from the big companies that we've been hearing to try and stay away from. But, we were interested in USF and when I called them they said they are no longer excepting grads or running their school is Charlotte because they have the pick of the litter right now. They want at least one year OTR and reduced their hiring area from 150 to 100 miles around Charlotte. He said to check back around August or so to see if anything has changed. Anyway, we still have to make it through orientation next week. We'll see...

    Very interesting. 935 companies go bankrupt, and that leaves all those drivers looking to other companies. BUT, the way I see it, that is 935 companies freightless, and some company has to pick up the slack... meaning, more freight, more drivers. Not to mention the money companies get from hiring new drivers. Just my opinion. Good post.

    Just because a company files for bankruptcy, does not mean it is out of business.

    That's true plus it's not a good sign for drivers. The bigger companies can pay even less now since there's a bigger pool of drivers.

    That is always the goal of big business. It is taught is school, that you should always strive to reduce the higher costing employees and replace them with newer lower paid. It is taught in accounting courses.

    McDonald's is the model we used...........

    That company has an astronomical turn-over rate, but their entire business plan is designed around that fact......... and they use it to their ADVANTAGE.

    I keep trying to tell this to some posters on this board...... but they are determined that the entire industry of trucking is going to come to a grinding hault because of the way the companies treat the drivers....... I'm sorry...... but some people are assuming that the companies actually WANT to keep the drivers!

    Careful what you assume..............

    Well with experience companies get "accuracy." But with less experience companies get more money. Craziness!

    I think the difference is in what is being hauled........

    If you are a company that needs drivers with higher skill levels or other attributes, then you are going to go for the "less drivers who make more money.... i.e. more experience)...... but if you are hauling everyday freight with no real specialty then (no offense) any "cave-man" can do it.........

    Logic follows then........... if you want to make more money as a driver........ then aquire the skills or attributes that make you a candidate for the more specialized companies........

    Cave-men drivers get cave-men wages..................

    My local paper had an article today, with alot of the smaller companies closing, they have alot of applicants. "It used to be the drivers who could pick and choose, now we can pick and choose". I have beeen thinking about that alot today,and I am wondering, is this good or bad for the drivers? :biggrin_25524:
