LTL is a big risk but big reward if you can stick it out. SoCal economy Cali in all one of the worst economy hit areas so anything there is a risk. Have a back up plan like I do being an former foodservice driver. I'd go back to it. 6-7yrs ago I would be F that but these times you got to do what you gotta do. Then if they call me back I'd go back to LTL. I kick myself cause I could of took this job last yr when they called me and be a yr in with a bid cause everyone that's been at my barn for yr has a bid. I'd try to get into the biggest one but I don't know the SoCal area though. Goodluck!

I wouldn't know. I've been here for about 6 months and still don't know what to expect. All 3 terminals are or were hiring though. The yard to work out of in socal is the Compton yard cause it is union. The others aren't. Fontana seems to be the biggest down here. I would say Fontana is the least likely to lay you off. Can't say for sure though. Actually I have no clue. I am scared I will have no work or be laid off too. Not gonna say what yard I work out of but it doesn't seem like the type to stay busy year round. Radman is right about the economy being crap down here. Seems they just want to keep making it worse too.

The bids are slow going at my yard. Doesn't look like I'll be getting one this year. Darn it!
-
You'll probably get one in spring. Yeah I won't get winter bid but looks like I'll move up the board a couple slots. It's been the slowest week in months. It's most likely thanks to one of our big terminals sending their board over here cause their slow. Taking up our freight. One thing I hate about being near a big terminal.
-
Is that a union thing? They don't do that around here in socal. I mean we will shuttle a trailer here and there and vice versa but drivers don't come to our yard and take our runs. I think my yard only does bids once a year in January. I could be wrong about that and I hope I am.
-
I'm in a non union so is the other terminal. Because their big they think they can do what they want. They did it the first week I worked here, sat until Saturday and bid drivers lost runs. #1 on the xboard sat 2 days. Since then they haven't pulled that stunt. I think they overhired cause they were slammed this summer now it slowed down for them so their trying to keep their guys busy. Which is bull for us cause we hire just enough people.
-
Sorry man that is bs. I hope they don't pull that again. I'm gonna have to ask around my yard to make sure that isn't happening, just to be sure. I'm in a small yard too.
-
Yeah it sucks. It's like NorCal sending a bunch of drivers empty to you guys. Foreign gets priority and they get sent back and you get whatever is left. Yup hopefully it isn't happening but it does around my area.

Yeah your lucky you don't deal with that bs. Oh well, it sucks but it's only one week.
