I have over 30 years driving experience. I have 500,000 OTR miles but they are from the 90.s and I have since been driving Local dumptrucks since 97.
I was last out OTR in 98 for market transport for 4 months.
The companies want the refresher course since local miles seem to be worthless. I can go back to my driving school for the course but what I am looking for are the companies who have the course at their company. Now all of us know that CR England has one and we all know what that is but I want to know what other companies have the course and will take an experienced local driver? I,m slighly out of touch with OTR, I know, but I am familiar with most all of them but do not know which ones have schools or training. I am on the west coast. Someone mentioned here that there are about 4 other companies in the US that do training.

GOOD LUCK MY FRIEND , i can find no legal requirement for a refresher course i think that is just some more nonsense that compays and possibly insurance companys have come up with to gouge the driver , don't think i would play. southernpride
Randy66 and I am medicineman Thank this. -
There's no gouging going going on (well not in this case) Try Crete they may very well put you with a "trainer" for a week or two and if it works out they turn ya loose in a truck. I know they will do this in some cases cuz they did it for me, they wouldn't commit to a minimum number of weeks and just kept saying up 6 weeks. But I was in my own truck before the end of the third week. Check em out ya never know

I would think after 30 years you would want to work at the better companies. You should also know that the companies that make you sign a contract for school have a hign turn-over rate. There's a reason for the hign turn-over rate and unless you have a bad record or any reason you can not be hired by anyone you should look for a company that is going to pay for your skills.
What I would do is get out and talk with some of the companies. Even some O/O would like to have a driver they don't have to train. Don't look at the bottom first and set your goals hign. I'd wear out a pair of shoes looking before I'd go with some company that's going to take a driver with a few months experience and try to train me. I'm sure you need some update just like the rest of us but come on you've got bankable experience here.Randy66 Thanks this. -
A Refresher course is only required with boddom feeder companys any good company will reconize your experience even if you have been out of the driver seat for a while local or otr if you realy do have 30 years in be patient and good luck

I know Heartland has started a refresher program again also, but I don't think they hire that far west. It is not in our normal driving area.
