Refridgerators

I tried the black and decker ones from walmart with no luck. I went through 3 of them before giving up. For done reason the compressors kept burning up. I have a 2000 watt invertor. So it's either the vibration or the unstable power from the inverter.

 

I also did the walmart variety. 3 of them in 6 months. Love having the fridge in the truck but yet to find the best bang for the buck.

If someone has a success story please post it here.

If you are willing to take out a cabinet wall, dorm fridges you can't beat and you can buy a decent one for $100-150. They even make them now with seperate outside freezer doors now. Mine even had a lock on it. Then you can stack a 700 watt microwave on top of it and secure it all down. Mine's an Emerson. I've had it almost 4 years now.

Mine I used on a 2500 watt inverter, but the digital read out says 150 watts at start up and cruises at 70 watts in a few seconds. It only comes on like every 30 minutes or so. I know a 800 watt inverter would power it. Possibly a 400 watt one.

 

What brand inverter do you have? You need one with a modified sine wave to protect certain electronics.

 

I was wondering when someone would mention that.

Something with Microwaves as well.

 

check out trucker fridge they have the small coolers up to the oem style fridges and they last...

 

With that inverter you're probably going to have to stick with the smaller DC model fridges. For me I prefer these. They are small but can be placed next to passenger seat so you don't have to stop simply to get a bottle of water or a candy bar from of an out-of-reach fridge. Unless you literally eat 100% out of the fridge, a large bunk fridge in not a necessity.

I have a Koolatron sitting in my right hand seat. Been using it for two years and works great! Doesn't pull too much juice and I can let it run for 24 hours with the engine off without pulling down the battery. I almost never eat in fast food or truck stops. Shop good Wally Mart and Sams and spend around $5 to $7 a day while eating well and maintaining good weight and health.
