you don't make a paycheck if you don't haul a load.

and i've heard of retailation all too often for even refusing ONE load. as in, miles go down the drain.

Why would you do that? I've had some I would like to have refused, but I've never refused one.

The people that often reject preplans are the ones that sit around the terminals, griping about how there aren't any loads to be had, or that their pickup is three days out.

Think about it: If you reject a lot of loads, why should the planner give it to you only to have to find someone else after you reject it?

After testing out and getting into my own truck I ran 3 months with a training DM. When that 3 months was up I received an evaluation before transitioning to my full time DM.

During my first 3 months they noted that I had a high "Refusal Rate" (I think about 20-25% of loads were "refused"). Actually, I wasn't "refusing" loads, simply using Mac-9 to let them know WHEN I could pick up and deliver.... however, they counted these as refusals.

After talking about it with both my training DM and my new permanent DM face to face I adopted a different strategy and my refusal rate dropped to 0%. Now whenever I get a preplan with impossible times I'll simply call dispatch and ask what the pick up and delivery WINDOWS are, and will almost always accept a load.

Bear in mind that pre plans are generated by planners that rely on a computer program, which in turn relies on the information from CSR (customer service representative). Often the computer program will spit out times that are much more aggressive than the customer really needs, building in "fudge factor" and also pushing us on the Plus 1 program. By calling dispatch they can tell you what the REAL times are, and you can base your decision on that information.

To answer the OP question, if you have a high refusal rate on pre plans it may have an impact on future load offers. Hot priority loads will be offered to a driver with a high acceptance rate and on time delivery record if they have a choice between that driver and a driver with a low acceptance rate or low on time delivery record.

when i dispatched before computers was in the meat and produce game and you had better be on time. did i have drivers i jumped around on some loads yes. some guys you just know are not going to make delivery on time. one of the worst places for that was mannhimer meats in chicago six am delivery all trucks, even though they would not touch you till noon not there by six automatic claim. you just cant put some drivers on that type of load period. think some of these mega carriers are rather harsh on new drivers when its not really there fault, things have changed now if you dont have the time that is it, why blame the driver? be safe out there

well it depends how many trucks are in the area, plus what there hours look like ect. I do a lot of mac 9 with change times on them becusa if the computer thinks I'll delivery that drop load at 0001 lol. My miles last year was 109,000 but I had around 60ish days off. Honestly the computer does a lot of the planning.
