Tanks and flats are often regional and/or local. I move asphalt and gross in the 4digits's all the time; but been with this co. for 6 years, driving for almost 20. I put in my 3 digit OTR days in the past, for sure.

@Giuseppe Ventolucci Cali is SO expensive, overworked, and underpaid. I respect you tho, man. My wife still swears your name is Italian, LoL! 'Move East, young man!' And bring your peeps; she's got a huge family, also.

Sorry to hijack post, O/P... just saying.. tanks and flats pay really well. Never cared for reefer; did it awhile in the old days as a favor to a boss....then went back to my doubles....back in the day.

Decent money there, too... I know a guy that hauls pups for Estes outta Mansfield Ohio, been there a bit tho, makes more than me. A tad, but still. OD pays well also, as I hear.

My lady is Salvadorean, she has a house in DC. Maybe one day I'll move out East. I don't do well in the cold and I have a kid here, no big family, but my daughter and my house keep me here for now.

Not sure DC is any cheaper than SF though

My only Local job was for American Central Transport in Liberty, MO. It paid $18 an hour 60 hours a week. No overtime. Not too much work. Got to drive in the Caves all the time and under some of the malls in town. Taking loads into places with a day cab that sleepers could not fit into. ACT is a good company.

I prefer over the road and being my own boss.

You can do LTL and be your own boss... My terminal manager always texting me , don't forget this pick up or u should go to that other place first... I simply reply: "I'm my own boss and know my route, kid"

His answer is always something along the lines of an angry emoji followed by a smiley face

Sadly, that's what I was making in the 80's working for ICG Telecom and Lucent Technologies. I sold my Refuse <trash> route and vactor rolloff to go to school for being a switch man for Lucent. Those were my low and high numbers, as soon as I got certified. Dang this world has gone downhill.

I know many of you are too old for this, but. . . HOW TRUE!~ Yeah, Cat..... That could be my range, as well. I do alot of extras, to keep me on the upper end; legally. Look how long it's taken me to get back to where I was 20 years ago, tho! Granted, the gratuitous stuff I do in the winter ... FB pays great, but I was NEVER trained, and boy...had a few close calls....read here somewhere or ask Six... , and the extra 'favors' like the relays/repowers/rescues of the idiot<s> that don't clean their pumps/valves {only tank?!?} after pulling syrup from the Carolina's and switching to HOT. At least it was only 6122 but it was STILL a mess~!~~~!!!!!

Sorry for getting off topic, OP . . . you can make what you put in. Tanks and FB is less limited, imho. I've done 'em all....unfortunately. Pups wasn't so bad.

Good luck, and hope we helped!~!

@Mike2633 ... what are you making local... ballpark, if you wanta pitch in? I think @TROOPER to TRUCKER was in that ballpark, also.
Whooly, what year were you pulling those numbers? I hear the pop and beer guys around here, anyways, are making about $16 . All that work. Dang.

Averitt is a LTL company and the OTR guys are the red headed step child. Also I am looking at different jobs right now and high on my list is PepsiCo as a grocery store merchandiser. Though I am somewhat close to a manager at Publix position also. I am heading on a mission trip in the next couple weeks and see what's out there.
