Reinhart or mclane?

    Mclane does corporate restaurants. Stuff that was built in 70,80,90,and present. Taco Bell, Buffalo Wild Wings, KFC, Pizza Hut. Mostly straight forward delivery a lot of cases. Where Mclane drivers make their money. Don't know Reinhardt but they seem to be like Sysco, Us foods type. Those places deliver to mom and pop places built in the 50's before tractor trailers were invented. They probably do schools and hostipals (pain in the butt) if there are stairs at the restaurants you'll go up or down them. Walk distances at some stops to make a delivery. I had to walk a dock in a middle of a lake to delivery 80 cases to a store out on a lake. Took me and another person over an hour to deliver. I'm sure they delivery to some big restaurants too. Whatever it takes to make a delivery especially if their fighting to keep up with mega companies of FS Sysco and UsFoods. I'd have to say the money is at Mclane over Reinhart. Mclane is a big company and has a lot $$ to throw around.

    As another wise member of this forum once said LOL "Reihardt, there like the Central Transport of the food companies."

    I think Reinhardt Detroit is also a lot of chain runs. They go from like Detroit all the way to Kentucky doing Famous Dave's, Pot Belly Sandwhich and Big Boy.

    Um, McLane is probably better company. Reinhardt does do regular broadline, but it depends what part of the country your in. I don't know where Reinhardt's corporate headquarters is.

    Reinhardt Cleveland does only Subway, that's all they do, there fleets a tad raggedy. Although the people who worked there say it's tolerable and Subway isn't all that hard, as far as no real steps.

    I know some guys though in the past have come on here who have worked for Reinhardts broadline division and that's a whole other story. I've heard that can be rough, the money isn't great the distbatching is screwy, part of the problem is Reinhardt will develop a sales territory that is just barely big enough to justify a drop yard and it's rare to have a 1 truck drop yard. Usually a drop yard is going to be 2 routes, because it cost the same amount of money to shuttle 2 trailers as it does 1 trailer, so if there going to put up a yard there going to want it to be at least 2 routes, because it's way more efficient to pull 2 trailers in one swoop then 1 trailer.

    So what happens is Reinhardt will have a yard that's really a one route yard, but it's just enough to where they can split the load between 2 routes and have two guys down there working and they each have 90 cases a day and make no money.

    My company sends the produce for Potbelly to that Reinhart barn on 10 and Ryan. Been there many times myself. Ralph is our receiver, good guy.

    We had a driver leave our company and go there, made great money, worked ridiculous hours every week, and ended up back with us after little over a year.

    IMO, plenty of ltl work in the detroit area, i'd head in that direction. Foodservice will make 2 things blow up - your wallet and your back.

    We've had several drivers leave and go to Reinhart. The only one I've talked to only made it a few months before he hit something on a store lot and lost his job. There's a bit more to that story, though.

    We also had a trans manager go there, mostly because it's around the corner from his home. He seems happy.

    I recently started with Mclane as a trainee, even I still cant stop #####ing about the work its so physical but Mclane is a very good company at least in Wisconsin DC, the management is very friendly and considerate, they do their best to help their drivers out. They are offering $200 bonus for work on your day off here, we have 1 day route 2 days, 3 days, they arent really 2 - 3 days, more like 1.25 days for 2, 2.25 days for 3, cus you are always back in the morning on your last day or close to noon the latest. They issue you a CLC, you can use at any hotel as long as they accept CLC, which 90% of the hotels does, so I have been staying at Country inn and suits or best western plus for my overnite routes. plus you keep all the rewards for hotels stays and fueling. They run 1000% legal, they will rescue you if you ran out of hours and bring you back if your day off is next day or they will throw some good change at you ask you if you can work an extra day and take day off when you come back, you have options. Pay is the top in industry, I interviewed a lot of FS company, at Mclane you get paid for everything you do, you get paid to fuel the truck, get paid for backhaul + miles, get paid for layover is 12 hours or more at hourly rate i think is $20, per diem is $20 per day as well. Their yard is very well organized, I went to reinhart for interview I stuck in the yard for 20 minutes to pull out for my test drive, not gated no traffic control all the trucks just come in at once. thats all i can think of right now, iam happy with the company, im a new driver, question just ask me,

    We don't get paid to fuel. They told us it's built into our component pay. Lol.

    It's probably a fairly regular thing for you guys, though. You cover a lot more ground than we do. There's a couple northern Michigan and PA routes that are 800+ miles, but those guys are the only ones that have to fuel on the road. We don't have fuel at the dc, but we do have an on site fuel truck that comes too early sometimes. I had to stop yesterday :mad:

    I use to drive fo Reinhart out of the Cincinnati facility that you speak of. Your assessment is spot on.

    here's my 0.02cents...

    This past week, a buddy of mine wanted to teach me the ropes about LTL

    He grabbed me, and took me to drop 2 loads: 1 @ Super Valu and 1 @ McLane

    First load out was Super Valu. We got there 1 hr early, and it took freakin' 3 hours to get a dock, and unload started 3 hour later, and finally released 3 hours later (SMDH)...

    Second load was at McLanes. Again, got there 1 hr early, hit the dock 30 mins past appt time, and got unloaded before the 2 hr detention kick. We ended up staying in the dock longer coz the lumper guy had to deal with some other drivers "fake check" issues.

    What impressed me was that the recieving desk & lumper dudes ACTUALLY apologized multiple times for the delay @ Mclanes and even offered us to use their lunch rooms for our comfort.

    Super Valu did not even care that we were there for 7 hours past the 2hr unload window.
