I currently have a valid Maryland class A CDL and a valid DOT medical card currently.
So this is just a hopothetical question.
I know if I let the medical card expire and dont renew my CDL will be downgraded to Class C.
And I know if I dont renew the CDL drivers license before it expires my CDL will be downgraded to Class C.
However how much time is allowed to lapse before I am required to attend CDL school all over again to get the CDL reinstated? As I said this is just a hopothetical question, I am still truckin right now.
Reinstate CDL question.

As far as your license getting downgraded for lack of a current medical, in most states you can self certify as either "Excepted Interstate" or "Excepted Intrastate" and your CDL will not be downgraded. You just can't drive commercially. All you would need to do to upgrade back is to get a new physical.Moneyhungrytrucker, buddyd157 and tscottme Thank this. -

What is the cost of renewing your CDL versus the cost of renewing a passenger car driver license? I'm guessing the difference is about $25 for 5 years or so. It is a hundred times easier to just renew your CDL and to self-certify you don't use your CDL in an operation that requires you keep a DOT card. It seems you are going to complicate your life over $20-30.
