Hello,
I am a 39 year old male and I have been disabled since Feb.2007 from a car accident.I have fully recovered and I am in perfect health.I finished Truck Driver Training on Aug.31,2012 and got my CDL on Sept.10,2012.I have a perfect driving record and have never been in any trouble.I also have a DOT medical card and have been fully released from my Doctor.I have applied at over 45 companies and they all reject my application.I just don't understand why these companies would rather hire people with poor driving records and past felonies before they would give me a chance.I am better physically fit than anyone that I went to school with and most of them have some type of record. We all applied for the same companies and they all got numerous offers and all my apps are declined.I have asked all these companies if they would tell me why I was declined and nobody will tell me.I know that it is because I was disabled but they will not say that because that is discrimination.I feel like I did all this work for nothing and wasted $3,500 plus expenses on school!! Does anyone have any suggestions for me or know what I can do about this? Please Help I need a job!
Thanks so much!!
Rejected because of past disability!!

Do not apply at mega carriers. We have a driver who lost his left arm and another driver who lost his right eye (he cant leave the state we live in). Start looking at companies with two hundred or less trucks. Thats how I got my start.

I would suspect lack of work for a couple of years in the 10 yr work history.
FYI - I have been disabled since Feb.2007 -- shows you are still disabled.. "I was disabled from Feb 2007 - xxxx" would be better. If that is what you are putting on your apps.
But all in all, I suspect lack of work history.

I understand what you are saying about lack of work history Mark. If I have been on disability from 2007 there is no way I could have a work history during that time.I still think that is discrimination if I could not work during that time. How am I going to build a work history if no companies will give me a shot?I worked for 19 years before I became disabled but they don't care about that.I feel like I just got out of prison or that is how i'm being treated! Thanks for your response

What's the nature of the car accident? Were you at fault or charged with anything? It sounds serious and can be part of the reason.
Maybe present yourself in person and not behind a computer might help.Bamasand Thanks this. -
I was not at fault or charged.I was rear ended and had two hip surgery's on the same hip.My hip has completely healed and I can't even tell I was injured anymore!I don't have any limitations and can do anything that anyone else can do.It was just a long healing process .Thanks

i dont know if lack of work history is right either....just my opinion...but what about 21 yr olds...i mean when i started driving.(went to truck driving school in 1991 at age 21 and had never worked prior)....soooo i dunno....man thats awful..hope you get to work soon...
Bamasand Thanks this. -
Another thing you can do is maybe file a complaint using the American Disability Act. They would ask a company why they didn't hire you and they better have a good answer.

I don't have any problem proving my disability and I have put that on all my apps.I just think they are denying my apps as soon as they see that I was disabled.
