2 points of BS in the op's story.
1. 19k for a truck school....the highest in southern CA is 8k, and that is through the Feds program and lasts 8 weeks.
2. With a conviction of a violent offense (either misdemeanor or felony) the probation is not "informal". The offender must attend "counseling" on a regular basis, and check in with P&P also on a regular basis. Also, the offender cannot leave the State without written approval from his/her probation/parole officer.
These, and the obvious, can't tell a straight story...would be a very good reason not to hire. and YES....a violent crime/conviction is an automatic dis-qualifier for a CDL until 5 years (minimum) after being clear of "paper" from the offense.

Sorry to hear your your hopes were deflated, but hey, you screwed up, so please do not come here crying about how much you deserve a break now. It don't fly with me either.
what are they offering, room and board and a broad??
But since 2 schools have rejected you, I suspect some of the other schools will as well. -
First of all, 19K are WAY TOO MUCH for a CDL ! Your misdemeanor should be off the record. I don't know why they pull that crap up. Shoot, I've been to jail for 2 weeks, 16 years ago (slapping a cop around) and did get trucking jobs after that. I've been to jail driving for a company (they impounded truck & trailer...) for fighting with a cop, log book violation, following to close...I kept my job. And what has a domestic to do with driving? I think they are feeding you a bunch of nonsense. Call Schneider, Swift, Werner, JB - whichever company has their own school - and see what they say. It surely saves you a lot of money and once they take you and you go through the ins and outs with them, you even have a job. 19K...somebody is making big bucks off you !!!! Don't screw yourself with those baloney schools. There is a reason why so many get shut down. They are crooks !

Yeah, those really were good ol' days. Did that too, pulled a dispatcher over the table. Loved the look on his face...scarred poopless. Pushed his butt back and told him he could stick his job up his rear. The funny part was...I'm only 105 lbs...but the dispatcher (around 170 lbs) NEVER expected that! I truly miss those good ol' days !!!!

Well maybe they now get a fist when they see crap like that on ones record, but I've been into trouble...I sometimes don't know HOW I got out of this #### - and still, I told future employers what happened, and NEVER had a prob getting a job. And the ones that would have giving me trouble over that - I wouldn't have wanted to work for them anyway. It's all attitude. Back then, you told them to not give you any crap and they had a darn good driver standing there, and you WERE getting that job. But nowadays they got all cheesy over things that have absolutely NOTHING to do with the truck driving job. That's the reason why I just (in January!) gave my license up. I don't wanna deal with all that cheesy stuff any longer - I've had it. It's not the highway cowboy life anymore, that I loved so much. In the last 5 years on the road, I felt I was sitting in jail cell on wheels. Shoot, all the jail time I did in the past 20 years where better than the aggravation from DMV/DOT, DAC, background checks, high fines, lying and corrupt officers, new rules and regulations...Next thing they do is "punish" you because you had a divorce. Come on man !

That "sales girl" gave good advice. If there's someone "down the street" offering CDL's for $500... then go for it! Then do your own job search. $500 sure sounds a lot better than $19k and is a much more realistic "gamble" to take given your past record.
Hit the pavement hard enough and prove her wrong.
