Saw an ad in our paper last week and did some research and decided to try Roehl. The conversation lasted about 30sec. I said I was from Illinois, she said she couldn't do anything. So I guess my question is... If I don't have enough money up front for school bit have a CDL permit where can I go to school and get a job? I'm hoping CRST and CRE are out...

Hiring areas... lots of companies won't hire from certain areas for a number of reasons. Often, they don't run routes through there. I tried ATS, and was all set to go, then they realized I lived in Colorado (I still had a North Carolina license at the time). Their reason was that they couldn't guarantee me home time, but also Colorado isn't a good place for trying to get flatbed/open deck freight out of, so when I did get home time, getting me out of the state could be a problem. It's just how it works.
There's plenty of places out there.... Stevens Transport might be a viable option for you. -
Where in IL are you? If you are trying to find a company that will send you to school, look at community colleges for training. Oftentimes there are grants available to pay tuition. Would need more detail on your situation to know for sure.

FFE and Prime has free tuition with a 1 year agreement. Prime is in Missouri and FFE is in Texas but I believe they will hire from Illinois.

Can add Central, swift and Stevens to the list as well.
Yes don't got to Werner, CRST, or CRE no matter what. -
I'm in Lawrenceville Illinois. It's south east Illinois. I left my job a couple weeks ago. I have no record, no accidents. I just hate working in a factory like I was. It's time to move on.

Like I said look to community college and check with the dislocated workers center. I got my tuition completely paid for and in addition they reimbursed for mileage to and from school and paid for child care.

I also live in Illinois and was told by Central that if you are from Illinois, you need to come with CDL already in hand. I have been looking all over for a company sponsored cdl school in Illinois and have not had any luck. Something strange about living here I guess. Further info from anyone would be much appreciated.

I believe the problem with Illinois is the several year old trucking school scandal which was followed by a change in the law, where you have to pass all tests again when transferring your CDL from one state to another. When training out of State a lot of companies have you get your license there. And as I said, your out of State license is not good enough and you have to take all your tests again.

Prime hires from Ill. We have several places we pick up from there. I just did last week. What Sabine said is true. Prime will however get you and your trainer a load back there and you just use his truck to retake all the tests.
