Shippers and receivers know that produce has high percentage of rejects. Thats why they blame truckers.
Some type produce is worse than others.

With a face like that I'd imagine her produce business isn't hurting at all, Pack.

sd cards are cheap & cell phones take #### good pictures these days. I always take photos of the load & seal before leaving the shipper and again when I open the doors at the consignee. These are timestamped automatically, and even geo-coded if you leave "location" on for a smart phone.

Anyway, doing so has prevented a couple of claims against me.

In your case, I'm thinking a torn container would be tough for a driver to cause (unless the load shifted and watermelons tore through). So you probably won't be faulted, it'll just mean you get to waste half a day while folks above you figure out where to deliver the rejected product.

Exactly. Pictures pictures pictures. Every load, once it is on the trailer, again after i secure it and again after i tarp it. And always with the shipper ls building in the back ground. Repeat the process at delivery.

I saw a line haul guy coming into the DC I run out of getting hassled with watermelons yesterday. They stack those boxes 3 high, so if any are a little wet, I'm sure it doesn't work out so well.
Parking lot is always full of Marten, Navajo, and O/O. I just do van OTR, I don't think the extra money for produce is worth the WTF grief that goes along with it. And there is a total FLOOD of watermelons at the moment. Stores selling them for $1.80 / melon. Watermelons out the wazzoo.

I delivered the overnight madman ( 800 miles ) load of meat to Atlanta once. Full hero status. Anyway, I roll in with 10 minutes to spare. They unload me, the receiver gives me the BOL's, says your short one case of ribs. I thought yea, right, that's for the company Q this afternoon. Trailer was preloaded & sealed so no grief on my end, but I know in my heart & soul those guys in that cold storage got those ribs.

Had 10 pallets of 50lb bags of pumpkin pie mix rejected at the Sam's Club bakery . Loader busted one board on each pallet , did not touch any of the bags. Told they could not put pallets like that in the stores. You are making pies here, when you ever see 50lb bags of pie mix in Sam's Club? Was preloaded and pre sealed . Ended up taking to FedEx . Sam's bill was very high!

The horror stories from anything dealing with food stuffs is just never ending, and it seems like the ridiculous bar gets set higher all the time, and it's always food.

    Not always food.

Food has value. I once remembered a load of butter from Shedds Vandenburgh in Southwest Baltimore into Brooklyin, Atlantic Ave I think it was, try backing a 48 into a sub basement off a street is unnatural that day. Anyhow (These were stick butter)

No one cared in there. I did not exist. All either half breed etc.

Until I showed a case of butter by the stick that was rejected by the previous reciever at hunt's point (I left out the previous delivering into Hunts... you already know all about that.) to these people and within 10 minutes I was reloaded and gone.

Oh yes indeed that food has value. Just don't be the one to carry it back home, have your pay docked and told to take it home and eat it.

The Kroger store near my house started selling watermelons in big cardboard boxes a few years ago. The melons don't go in the store. they're on the sidewalk, probably forked off. Who wants to finger print melons? So maybe they have a legitimate complaint.
On a side note, when I was a kid, we picked watermelons in the summer for spending money. The best watermelon packer I ever saw was a one armed man.

What could you? Get some new boxes and pay a lumper to do it. I sincerely hope you get this resolved.
