Relatively safe places to be a trucker

    Or delivering to grocery stores. When you bump 17 docks a day, you get really good at backing.

    Plus they're usually tight driveways and docks.

    What gets me is that a lot of companies won't hire guys into OTR positions even if they have years of local experience. The local guys are the ones with the skills, IMHO.

    They want the homeless ones who will move into their trucks for months at a time.They know if you have been working local that you probably have a domicile that you will want to see regularly.

    I used to run local. I gave it up to go back to college. After my year in college most of the jobs dried up, I took back to OTR again. Only this time I don't have a wife or household to support. I'm really looking forward to heading into Canada.

    The Southern States have less experience than Northern States in clearing Ice and Snow, so when you get a sheet of ice on the roads in Georgia, you will have a tougher time...IMO. I lived in Atlanta for about 10 years and when Ice storms came, you were pretty much stuck until it warmed up.
