I tried continuing with this question on another thread. Didn’t get much response. So I’m asking as a thread in itself.

If you had high priority on a hassle free truck.
You wanted to see the mechanic least possible.
Wanted to keep down time minimal.
Wanted to save the most money possible.
    Which truck would you choose?

My intuition and limited experience suggests? A Freightliner?

That's easy lease a truck from peterbilt pacer 3500 a month all in but with t byat you get a free tow on breakdown. You get free loaner while your down. Making 3 plus a mile is easy out here with your own authority or leased aa carrier who let's you run your truck .
10,000 miles a month easy doing is 30,000 month minus fuel is around 5000 , insurance is around 500 so 24500 minus the lease is 21000 left for you .

Any truck pre 1997 does not need ABS. Or stupid DOT reflective tape on mud flaps, or top of cab wall.
And Detroit series 60. Or CAT. Take your pic.

If you really wanted a dependable trouble free truck here's what you do.

Buy a pre 97 truck as old iron fan said no abs.

Then proceeded to buy the mechanical crate engine of your choice to repower with. Put in a new radiator and charge air cooler new heater core a new alternator new thermostats new oil pressure sender new water temperature sender a new starter a new starter solenoid a new air conditioning compressor and condenser all new belts and hoses and lines and rebuild your Fan Hub. Put on a new turbo new injectors and rebuild your Jake brakes. Put in a new fuel injection pump. Put on new engine seals buy a brand new bellhousing and a brand new flywheel. Put in a new oil pump. Put on new fuel lines.

Put in all new hood hinge Hardware bumpers Springs and cables. Put on all new exhaust including mufflers. And put new motor mounts and radiator mounts in too.

Put in a new clutch a new transmission and a new shift tower a new shifter and all new lines.

Replace everything on the front end. Put new Springs New King Pins new tie rod ends new steering box everything complete.

Put on new shocks and airbags all over the whole entire truck including the cab and while you're at it put new cab mounts on too.

Put on new brakes on all new drums and all new s cams and Associated Hardware. Put on a new treadle valve and air dryer. Put on new brake valves and hoses. Put on all new brake cans and pancakes. Replace the check valves on the air tanks. Buy yourself a set of brand new virgin tires. Have your rears rebuilt with new axles and put new synthetic oil in them. Put a new drive shaft in and have it balanced and put new U joints, a new carrier bearing, new yokes and new seals and wheel bearings all the way around. Put new springs on the back also while you're at it and rebush the suspension. Also buy a brand new fifth wheel.

Replace your door locks and hinges. Replace all the weather stripping. Replace the cables for the heater controls. Put a new blower motor in the cab and in the bunk also. Replace every one of the toggle switches and all of your air switches and your ignition switch. Replace all of the lights inside the dash gauges and your dome lights also. Replace all of your headlights marker lights, turn signals, flashers and fuses. Replace all chrome parts and paint the shiniest most durable paint job.

Put in a new air cleaner new batteries and cables, new glad hands and hoses, and the most expensive seat and bed for the bunk that you can find.

    It's that simple.

Then proceed to go broke because you're 100k in debt making $1.25 / mile.
