Background-Drove local in Los Angeles, Ca 1990-1997 (off n on between children) Drove team for 1.5 yrs from west to east coast 1997-1998
Moved to Alaska and drove local in summers 1998-2011, drove in Prudoe Bay in winters 1999-2008 and have about 200hrs of haul road time 2010-2011.
Driven mixer trucks, dump trucks, belly dump, side dump, maxi -hauls, doubles, box van, car haulers, tanks, and step decks.

After 14 yrs in Alaska, Im tired of the cold here 8-9 months of the year. Currently wanting to relocate to lower 48 and drive long haul 11 western states. But extremely nervous of taking the plunge. We dont use log books here unless on the occassion driving to Valdez or Anchorage or the haul road. We dont have satelites on trucks, gps, or any of the technology trucking uses in the lower 48.
We also dont have the big city traffic and different rules etc in different states to deal with.

Im experienced safe driver who is always willing to learn something new and I take pride in my proffession.
Looking for advise about possible companies with good refresher courses, teaching about the technology uses in truck, etc.
What do I need to do or change with my current AK CDL / med card?
Are there companies who will relocate you? haha, had to ask

I guess Im just nervous. Im a single female truck driver and will have to fly to the lower 48 for interviews, driving tests, etc and dont want to waste any time or money doing so. Place to live isnt my concern, its my duffle bag & me! If possible a terrier dog riding with me later once settled. Willing to start asap of arriving in the states and prefer 11 western states. Im also not worried about home time.

It was from Dale Jarrett driving adventure. I had a blast. It was at Atlanta. Cars were cut back to 150 MPH. That was fast enough.

Rule number one don't leave the thermal underwear behind.

You might search in the little box up there about either the ND (yeah still butt cold in the winter I know) or Texas oil fields. It would be a way to get down here with company housing and get something more long term set up.

With the variety of equipment I have heard people run up there you would probably be valuable to a company that may haul sand one day water the next, and move shale the third.

    Good luck.

Oh I will deffinately bring the long underware! lmao
I work for a company here in AK that has business dealings in ND.
Lots of rumors here of the big oil booms there and heard many stories of people relocating because of it. I suppose I could get back into it down there. Ive worked in the oilfield business here up on the slope. Bouncing from one rig to another doing everything from hauling water to dirt and rock to building pads and roads. Its just so fn COLD!!!!!!
HAHAHA thats why Im leaving! I love the $2k week or more but the costs is heavy on the mind & body.
Thanks Tazz, I'll check into it over the summer. :)
Well Crusty, when I get that direction Im deffinately tryn out that car! :p

What are your thought on working with an Owner Operator as team driver maybe instead?

Make sure you can check references! Do they have consistent customer or are you gonna have to sit waiting on loads? Pay and bennies in writing. I see way to many handshake deals on here trying to get their due.

Could be really good with the right business owner. Could be your demise with the wrong one.

JMO one dweller per truck! Never could trust anybody else to drive.

I hear you on the hand shakes! Lot of people come up to Alaska on promises and end up stuck here with no money, job, etc. Seen that many times and its to frickn cold here to end up screwed over.
Im the same tho about someone else driving. Took me 3 yrs before I'd go in the pickup with my ex-husband driving. I'd be the one to drive everywhere lol

Alaska sounds like Vegas, dreams get washed out. I'd say with your experience, you can find work in the 'lower 48". Most prep work can be done VIA phone/web.
