I'm locating two trucks to another state. I do not have my own authority. The company were leased on with wont allow us to use their dot numbers and mc number to move trucks. How do I go about relocating trucks legally. I have heard you can put not for hire but I feel that's a shady way of doing things as well as it put a big target on my back. Thanks in advance for any info.

Insurance and registration are required to drive on a public road. When you say, "relocating" exactly what do you mean ? Are you moving your business to another state and then looking to lease the trucks on to a carrier ?

Yes trucks are registered and insured. I'm deleasing from a company in texas and leasing on to a new company in north dakota. But I wont have dot or mc numbers since I was running under another company's authority here in texas. As long as the trucks are registered and insured i should be able to run not for hire to get to north dakota if I'm not mistaken.

Bypass all scales(go around) and move them on Saturday evening into Sunday. DOT doesn't work on the weekends.

I don't know Texas or North Dakota but I've done this many times before running something I shouldn't be moving

Writing Not for Hire isn't worth the paper it's written on....

One is still a CMV. One still has to go into the scales CMV's have to go into. One still has to carry all applicable insurance and tags and such. Heck, as this is a commercial move at the direction of the motor carrier, logs are even needed.

Both trucks will be driving separate from each other.

As long as your going up there unladen and have registration/tag (even if temporary, Texas offer trip permits and 30 day temp registration) and have insurance you should be fine.. true north will sell you trip insurance also to get you to nd.. run a log just in case..
