I know at my school the only apps we were offered were by the recruiters that came in. Now there was a rack in the back corner that had apps from a lot of companies on there that I think most people over look. Our instructor did say he would fax any application we brought in though, always thought it looked better with a school cover sheet. :)

I have been reading through a lot of the forums here and am getting quite the education even before I start school. Thanks so much for your input. I have been busy with some research of all the trucking companies out there. I never knew there were so many. Do any of you drive for May Trucking? From what I see on here they seem to be a great company to work for. I already recieved a call back from Squire ( Knight) I think they work together requesting some additional information. Any input on them? Thanks again for all of the worldly trucker advice.

Hope to see ya when you stop by. AIT looks to be a pretty professional school and there is suppose to be only 4 or 5 of us in the refresher class so my Wheel time should be pretty good.

Thanks George but apparently right now they have to female trainers. Leona told me to check back every few weeks to see if that changed. Thanks for the info.

I went to Stevens to get my license and Schneider to get my certificate and wound up doing flatbed with Western Express and absolutely loved my time out on the road. I'd say put a app anywhere they'll take it and let the cards fall where they may. Good luck and drive safe!

Thanks that is sort of what I am doing. I put in the 2 apps offered to me by the school and have put in for additional companies I have found through reading these forums and suggestions that other drivers have given me. Thanks

You want to know what kind of company it is? Start by asking how many drivers do they have that have retired from them.

I went to different school, but tell you what I did:
School offered some apps, I asked about other companies (like you, seen on one of their own ads), and asked out other companies I'd heard about on my own. The lady was very nice, gave me all the apps for the one's they had. (I needed reimbursement arrangement for my loan, so my choices were bit more limited.)
I also looked online, asked around to people I know who drive for a living. wrote down as much info about the company as I could find, took the info the the lady in the school office that "assists in job placement", and she looked them up, see if I might qualify (accept school training and my loan requirements), then either got me the app, or told me web site address to fill one out.
the school I went to, they wanted credit for 'helping you find your new job', makes their paperwork look good. so ask the office people at school best way to go about it. Since you paying yourself, you should have lot of options of companies to apply with. An instructor told me, those who put effort in, get the best out of it, those who rely just on school to do all the work, usually not driving after a year.

I was told this depends on which company you go with. I ended up local, so not quite the same. I can say, one of the chics I stay in touch with from school got her trainer right away. I never found out if chic or male.
I know from guy who used to train for XX, claims if male trainers and female trainee, is special political correct class, and the male's spouse/significant other has to sign that it is ok! (not sure I believe this, but whatever). I have a friend who used to be female trainer for rhoel, she said she usually did two students a year.
I've heard looking for a non-smoking trainer harder to find than one who will train female (female or male), but I dunno. I didnt go that route.

wish you the best of luck. hope you keep posting

Thanks for the great information and I will continue to put in my apps. I have even got calls back asking me when I would be done with school and I haven't even started yet. With the advice you all have given me it appears that I may have my choice of good companies to work for. Thanks again

Good point never thought of asking that question. Do you really think a recruiter will have that answer?:biggrin_25523:
