I got my CDL through this company a few years ago - and I'd like to share my experience after looking back on it as a bit more of a seasoned driver.
They did get me my CDL AND completed my training IN ABOUT A MONTH. After that I was flying solo which was nice. But... That's about all I fondly remember about it.
Everything else sucked ###. The driving school teacher I had was a major #######, and probably had Bipolar syndrome. The lady in charge of managing new recruits was a patronizing #####. Every single dispatcher had their head in their ### and talked to you like a piss ant. ALL of their mechanics were rude and useless - especially the ones in the Atlanta terminal. It seemed like I ran the New England area a lot - not a fun place to be for a new driver from the midwest. The pay scale was mediocre and pretty much set to keep you at that point. Getting time off was a pain in the ###... Actually I'm drifting into typical driver complaints here - but I do remember getting decent miles despite the subaverage pay scale.
I had three MINOR incidents over the course of a year that they threatened to fire me over as they kept count apparently. One was busting a mudflap, another was dropping the passenger truck steer tire off a steep scale and knocking the alignment off a bit (I could have kept my mouth shut about this too but I confessed thinking honesty was the way to go) and the final incident: I drove in some grass at a customer to get backed up and tore the lot up a bit. Not gonna say it wasn't my fault. Not gonna say it was the best way to do it. Will say they made a HUGE federal case out of it and threatened to fire me with this being the last straw. Also the safety lady was a total ##### too. A total ####ing useless #####.
Needless to say I put my two weeks in shortly after and moved to a much better company where I have been the past few years with NO incidents or complaints.
I did stay my last two weeks, and they sent me home from the Gary IN terminal which is a ghetto ### place, especially if you're using the bus stop. Oh yeah and they witheld half of my last check claiming I still owed $350 dollars on my driver school tuition. Needless to say it was money well spent because I never have to deal with these ####s again, and I have my license and am working for a great company now.
I write this because I saw a Rhoel truck today that looked a lot like my old truck and I figured I'd pass on my not so positive experiences with this place.
However, things may have changed in the years since I was there and your experiences may vary. It was a good company to start driving through because they got me my CDL quickly and showed me how a ####ty company operates so I can appreciate working for a good one. (And all I really lost was $350 , which is saying something considering what some places charge)

I heard their CEO on Road Dog w KC Phillips a few months back telling everyone how great it was.
I wonder which one we should believe???
I know which one I believe.LilRedRidingHood, magoo68 and Bean Jr. Thank this. -
You acquired a cdl and now have a good career because of Roehl, so you should appreciate that. All that other stuff is just part of the territory with training companies. You had 3 incidents that cost them money and they didn't fire you.
LilRedRidingHood, Zangief, JOHNQPUBLIC and 10 others Thank this. -
Much akin to my appreciation for Werner. Left with a not-so-spotless record (nothing major, but $ out of their pocket..... a $2000 bumper that I knocked off myself & a few other minor scrapes.... lol) - but they afforded me the opportunity to cut my milk teeth & see most of the country.
Can't really complain as long as you learn your lessons well & keep striving to do & be better at the job.LilRedRidingHood, Puppage, Shock Therapy and 1 other person Thank this. -
Getting your CDL is the hardest part of this career. Kind of like boot camp.
My schooling was pretty decent. But my trainer was bipolar female. I wanted to kill her. 18 years later. She was a darn good teacher.
6 months out of school. I dragged the trailer in to the pole at the fuel island. Bent the rim and sliced the tire. I went local after that.
While my 6 weeks with a trainer wasn't always a party. The next 6 months with a co driver was flat out suicidal.LilRedRidingHood, KillingTime and Bean Jr. Thank this. -

SCHNEIDER would of fired you on the spot for the very first one, as they are a ZERO tolerance company. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.LilRedRidingHood and Marc Lee Thank this. -
I started with roehl early in 2010 at their school in Marshfield. I thought the training was really good. Every time I see someone not setting up properly to back in somewhere I think about my training there and how much easier that has made my time out on the road in just that one regard. Also the vast amount of time I spent driving through and delivering in the Chicago area made me a much better driver than if I had spent all of my time driving in Kansas . My dispatcher out of ellenwood was named Brian. Don't know if he is still around but he was a good guy and did a really good job at keeping me moving. I moved on after I did my 120,000 for a better paying gig but the lessons and opportunities I had at Roehl helped to make me a solid driver.

LilRedRidingHood Thanks this.

Did you try Jim Palmer Trucking? I'd choose between Roehl and Jim Palmer Trucking. I didn't know Roehl hires students that far west.LilRedRidingHood and Rattlayitdown Thank this.
