Good point. OR ... contacting her and seeing if Flying J will start a "secret shopper" program for the dining services.
Hello HFC. My first attempt at the quote thing so I hope I'm doing this right. You are correct that Golden Corral is not a good option for truckers to stop and eat since most have no actual truck parking. I was not suggesting them as an alternative to Flying J. I only meant to compare the quality of the buffet. Of course Golden Corral is a buffet only restuarant and puts out an impressive spread but Flying J is also a full service restuarant. Of course timing has alot to do with it. If you can catch them right after a change over it's not that bad. For some reason I rarely manage to do that. I was just going through my receipts and I did hit 4 Flying Js that trip. I do believe most of the restuarants are open 24hrs but not the buffet. Most take down the buffet at around 10:00PM or so. Of course the "Deli of Death" is usually fully stocked with deep fried brown stuff 24/7. Sometimes if I just want to fuel and go and not park I will grab a corndog or burrito but I try to avoid that if I can. If it's true I will hate to see the buffet go. It's great when your'e in a hurry but want something close to a real meal. Your'e not at the mercy of a waitress and cook in the back as far as time goes. Someone said it can add up to over 5 Grand to eat one meal a day at Flying J. That is a scary number but I guess that's why we get that tax deduction. Still if someone wanted to go all "Dave Ramsey" on their bills you could just buy bread and balogna and bank the rest. I guess I'm spoiled but I like to have at least one hot meal a day. Bone Appetite. (Or something like that.)

Also, if showers were not included in the cost of fueling up, then, the expenditure each day would be about thirty dollars to have a driver eat one meal a day, take one shower a day and launder clothes once a week.
I try to shower every day but I admit that when things get hectic I will occaisionally skip 1 day. But one day skipped is my limit. The next day my shower becomes my #1 priority. Most truck stop rest rooms smell like farts and cigarette smoke. I don't see how anyone can brush their teeth or shave etc. while someone is "evacuating" in the stalls behind them. :smt078 I keep a jug of water that is for rinsing after brushing, washing my face , etc. I guess we are getting off topic here so let me get back to the Flying J buffet. I never brush my teeth while standing in front of the Flying J buffet.
off topic......surley not.......I don't think they let us take our tooth brushes through the buffet anymore anyway........
Just ate at a Flying J Buffet today in Effingham, IL and It wasn't too bad. They had a Thanksgiving Day type theme going on. The dinner rolls were fresh for a change. Maybe someone from Flying J is reading these forums. I like cheddar cheese and Chinese noodles for my salad and they had neither but other than that small gripe not too bad today. Even the sweet tea was just right. Sometimes it can be too sweet but today it was just right.
