How's everybody doing?
Recently, I decided to return to trucking after a 17 year-long hiatus. My last driving job (2005) was with Cinderlite out of Carson City. Since then I have maintained my license (except I let Hazmat go a while back, but still have double/triples/tankers), and recently updated my MEC. My driving record is solid (last ticket was 2016 for speeding). The only thing I lack is some seat time and experience with ELDs and automatics. I have applied to ITS Logistics, OD, and FXF. ITS said I need a refresher course ($2500 for 1 week, seriously) to become eligible for a driver position, although none are currently available. FXF immediately passed me up for a road driver position, so I applied for the driver apprentice job. Nothing yet from FXF. I spoke with the TM at OD yesterday and he said he would look at my application and run it past the safety office (very promising). This is my progress so far.
My goal is to find a local position so I can be home at least most nights. I thought Line Haul may be a good option once this body of mine adapts to the schedule. I do understand the position may not agree with me, but I feel it's worth a try. Ultimately, I just want to avoid having to take a refresher course and find a solid company that takes care of its drivers. My first choice is OD, however, I would appreciate any advice and suggestions you folks can offer.

Linehaul is where the money is at.! Definitely gonna have to get your hazmat back. FedEx apprentice would be good for you. Since your mvr is pretty clean I would apply to more ltl companies while they are still hiring like crazy. Estes, xpo, Dayton, tforce, etc. I think worse case scenario you would have to do a refresher course, or maybe dock to driver. Best case scenario if you are not super rusty and do well on your road test, they’ll probably just have you ride with another driver for a little longer than usual. Idk, maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in.
Honestly, I would just apply to more companies. Just see what they say. Then go from there.RussianBearTruckeR, Another Canadian driver and JG473 Thank this. -
