10-4. Now the other thing is would I still have to create a BOL showing personal move so the truck isn't considered a revenue laden truck. Oh and yes, my own authority.
Renting a tractor/trailer for a private move.

NO, I would think that any proof that you can provide that it is your own stuff, like stuffing a box full of letters or bills in the load should be enough. The purpose of the BOL is to show you have the permission to haul the load, which if you fill it out for your own stuff, then you run into other problems. If you are stopped, just make sure your log is up to date.

**Update**
I did have to rent a tractor a few weeks ago to reposition a trailer (drop deck vans don't line up to standard docks very well). This was thru my work, not private. Two things that were required; first, a DOT number is a must; second, insurance! A DOT number is free, but unless I bought the rental place's insurance I wouldn't be able to rent at all. Up untill this point, I haven't driven a tractor (nor rented one) in over 10 years so I wasn't sure what the requirements were.
Thanks for everyones input on the matter. Am still curious over the paperwork issue tho. -
I called OOIDA and then my local DOT office to confirm. No BOL required for personal. A BOL might acutally be asking for trouble. No authority needed but must have DOT, MC #'s on the side of the truck, must run logs and still report to IFTA, UCR a must plus apportioned tags for truck and trailer (duh, no brainer there) and appropriate insurance. Haven't spoken with insurance on the issue yet but I will call Monday to find out. One thing I forgot to check is if the truck had to have either a company name or not for hire on it. Haven't got my company decals made yet.

Good job searching. I know people will ride you about resurrecting an old thread-but those same people will ride you for not using the search option before posting. Can't win either way. Lol.
As far as renting a CMV I'm pretty sure that without commercial insurance and a DOT number no one will rent to you. If you have that you're golden, if not? SOL.
That's been my experience anyway. Good luck -
I think the only other option is to buy a "beater" and register it as "personal use",like an overgrown pick-up truck of sorts. -
