A good mechanic will tell you hey we aren’t specialists on this vehicle and not sure how but I’ll give it a try. That means they take responsibility. In the OP the mechanic told him to take to a specialist. Crap why didn’t he say that before he touched it?

that’s the issue with many mechanics, experience. If you don’t know then you don’t know and tell me before you touch my stuff.
